Maybe it's cause I'm lefty but who else likes th combo tool better that the can-opener on Vics?

I LOVE THE COMBO TOOL!!!:thumbup::thumbup:

Maybe that's why my bantam is my most carried sak, right up there with a cadet. It's the design of the combo tool that lets Vic do away with a whole layer of tools.

I love maximum minimalism!

Carl.

I love the combo tools on my compact, bantam and waiter... they're very effecient...

but i still love the can opener since it got a very usefull screwdriver tip on it and i use it pretty often... its also good for small prying task...

when i carry campact and waiter, i miss the screwdriver tip on the can opener very often...

Ditto. My only experience with the combo tool is the 111mm flavor. As such it does a good job but not as good as the dedicated can opener and bottle opener layer. Is the somewhat lesser ability of the combo tool offset by saving a layer and/or adding another short tool? I'm not convinced yet, but I'm leaning that direction.

well, at least it works as a combination of bottle and can opener with a screwdriver on its tip... its more usefull than if the function only offered as bottle or can opener only...

i dont like wenger can opener since its a one fuction tool only... on the other hand the victorinox can opener mostly used as a subtitute of phillips screwdriver...

thank God that SAKs are affordable so we could enjoy several of them without have to concern about budget to much hehehehe....

While I love the Vic can opener as well, the Wenger is not a one trick pony. I've used mine as a pot holder, small awl, carving/scraping tool, etc.

And if you carefully sharpen the inside edge of the can opener, you can use it as a pull-cutter to open blister-packs that a lot of retail items come in these days. It's a real convenient little tool to have on Christmas morning.

Yes!

For me, the combo tool lets me carry a knife that is the absolute minimum tool in my pocket. I don't know why, but I just don't want to carry anything I don't use on a real regular basis. As much as I love the cadet, the nail file on it is redundant as my keyring classic has a nail file and with a small scfew driver tip that aalso deals with phillips okay. Since my classic can never ever be left home by accident ( by virtue of being attached to my house and car keys) I have a spare knife blade, file/SD, sissors, tweezer and toothpick, the bantam supplies just the larger knife blade for things the classic is too small for and the combo tool. With the classic and alox bantam I have just what I need and nothing more. That way there's more room in my pocket for stuff like small flashlight, pen/pencil, Bic lighter for my pipe, and other edc stuff.

Because of the combo tool, the Bantam has everything I need for EDC.

Plus being a spear point it's perfect for dressing out critters (237# black bear this am).
I might leave my "hunting knife" (Buck 303) home next week for deer season.

Dang, I just realized that I never had a Vic with a combo tool. Must get one of those and see how i like it

The can opener is my most valued tool, and the reason I carry a SAK. So no, I'm not into the combo tool. I'd even consider a Vic "can opener solo" a worthwhile investmestment. That being said it's the next best thing, and a great design.

I think that settles the question of if SAKs are good on game.
But about the combo tool? I'd much prefer a dedicated can opener, and a dedicated bottle opener.
