I've been looking at the compact. It seems like it has everything I would need, except for a phillips screwdriver. Why the stupid hook? How well does the combo bottle/can opener work on cans? Is the blade the same as the one on the Pioneer/Soldier?

Great SAK , one of the best EDC's out there , till you discover Alox !

I'm unable to keep them , everytime I get one , I end up giving it to a NKP .

The blade on the Alox-Variants is thicker than on the 84/91mm-Series.

The bottle/can-opener is fair. It gets the job done, but the dedicated tools are a little better.

Why dont you take a look at the Climber or the Cadet?

As much as I wanted to call the Compact my ultimate SAK, I kept going back to my Stay Glow Climber. I just love that knife, and it's not too much thicker. If I really want the pen and pin, a Climber Plus is readily available.

I got a compact thinking it would be, well, compact, but as someone posted, the climber is not that much thicker. Not to mention with the climber you get a few more tools like an extra blade. I would trying both out to see if they "carry" well for you, and if there's not much difference subjectively (as I concluded for myself), see if their respective toolsets favor one or the other.

When every dog is hung , I would rather have a Climber , but the Compact is still a cool SAK with a lot of adherrants .

The Compact is great if you want a thin SAK with scissors. Personally I would prefer the Climber. Just a little bit thicker and more tools.

About 1/8" should make no real difference , I would rate the Climber as more capable .

The Compact is my go-to urban carry SAK. The best ratio of tools I use versus ones I don't, by far, in a thin enough package that I don't notice it in my pocket. Love it!

The combo tool works okay for opening cans.
