Hi,
I just purchased my first alox farmer from amazon. I can see why everyone raves about them. HOWEVER: The blade seems a hair warped to my eye. Not horrible, but I noticed it right away.
At the handle, things look good. The bevels are (nearly) even. When looking directly at the edge, I can see that the edge is centered (more or less) in the middle of the spine. Toward the tip, however, the edge is lined up with _one side_ of the spine. (in fact, at the very tip, I think it is even a bit past the spine.)
-- Rather than having two equal primary bevels, the bevels at the tip are asymmetric... with one side essentially flat (zero degrees) and the other side having a steeper bevel.
The edge itself is fairly straight... it is as if the top of the blade was twisted (like if you stuck it in a keyhole and turned.. bending the spine but leaving the edge in line).
Is this "normal"? I thought maybe the subtle twist helps the blade fit compactly next to the other implements... or maybe my knife is just defective.
(At $15, I might just live with it, rather than deal with boxing/returning, etc... but then again I'm a bit OCD.)
Advice would be greatly appreciated.
