I am thinking of getting this to put on my keys and was wondering how bright the LED light is.

Not very. It can be used at short distances, like finding a door lock or something dropped under a theater seat, but not much more. Good for what it is, the MM is not a substitute for regular flashlight, even a small one. OTOH, the light is colored red, which is good for not messing up night vision.

Have a look on youtube at the new-ish Silvertech Signature Lite. It has a much brighter white LED. You would loose the combo tool you get on the Manager though.

There are two currently available. The old one has a red LED that's not very bright; the newer one has a white LED that's much brighter - maybe 1/2 of a Photon micro - but still not as bright as a dedicated flashlight.

Thanks Znapschatz. I may still get this and keep my current Fenix E01 on the keyring.

Good plan, and what I do. That pairing provides a choice of lighting, bright or discrete, depending on situation.

Thanx, I didn't know that. How many varieties of SAK does Vic turn out, anyway? By now, must be in the thousands.

Get the regular manager, have a separate keychain, and attach them to your keyring with a size 1 Nite-Ize S-biner for easy attach/detach.

I carry a small Fenix for my bright light needs, but the Midnight Manager is on my keyring and I quite like the dim red light. As znapschatz says, good for keeping night vision and enough to see things by when it is really dark. Not too obtrusive either.

The tradeoff in all of this is a bit subtle but still worth mentioning: if you get the key chain SAK with the light, do you give up the tweezers? If so, you are giving up a (somewhat) useful tool.

I have a midnite minichamp (with the new white LED) and the regular (new style) minichamp. The midnite version does not have the tweezers, but the regular version does have them.

Since I EDC an Arc AAA light on my key chain, I find it best (for me, at least) to carry the regular minichamp in the key chain, so that I have the tweezers available. Although the SAK tweezers aren't the greatest, they DO work in a pinch.

YMMV, of course.
