Hi All,

I recently got an old Alox Soldier (1993) and it's in near perfect condition with all tools snappy and smooth... EXCEPT THE AWL. It does open and shut just fine; however it snaps open relatively weaker than the other tools and it sometimes needs some assistance closing shut. I've tried soaking it in really hot water (while opening and closing the awl) then I kept it submerged in oil for a couple of hours, but still no change.

Anyone else experience this with their Old Alox Soldiers?

I had a '77 that showed the same symptoms. Try a longer oil bath, I think I left mine for 3 days. Also try to exercise the awl each day during the soaking period. This worked well for me the awl now snaps open and closed just like the rest of the tools.

+1!!! I've had them in oil baths for 4-5 weeks before the last sticky tool was snappy.

Thanks so much for the tip  My Old Soldier has been bathing in oil for almost a day now... Only 48+ hrs to go :)
