I have a total of four Alox Vics that I have purchased over the last few years. My most recent perchase was an Alox Solo. Great single blade design but I'm finding that it is VERY rough opening. I have washed in under hot water and applied oil but it has not improved. I thought about sending back for repair but it was so inexpensive I'm not sure it is even worth while. If I can't get the opening to smooth out it will likely be just used in the garage as a throw-away. Any suggestions on now to improve the smoothness?

Your hot water and oil treatment, or blasting it with WD-40, or opening/closing it about 800 times while you watch a movie are the only things I know which might work.

Assuming you bought it new—did it come this way? Or did it happen after carrying it? If the latter, perhaps a bath in one of those sonic vibration jewelry cleaners might help.

I have found that the kind of oil makes a diff. Miltec-1 makes them very smooth and attracts less lint that others. Stuff like rem-oil and CLP they are still a little rough opening.

The solo was new and came this way. I do have Miltec-1 that I can try but will also use WD40 to clean it first to see if that helps. Other than that I think just opening/closing it a bunch should help.

try using some type of grease, instead of oil in the pivot...I use pure lube, made by pure excess industries (it's supposed to be for paintball markers), to lube my blades. Smooths them right up.

One of my soldier alox was having the same problem like yours.i just use motor oil and open close it for many times.after the break in,the problem is gone and its very smooth now. Goodluck buddy.

It will break in, if it's real bad, clean all the lube off and put some toothpaste or other super mild abrasive on the joint and put the blade in a padded vise then work the handle open and closed a few hundred times and see if it improves. I've done with just with oil on the joint and it works too, but if you have a real bad case some mild abrasive would speed up the process.

I have been working on it over this week with the Miltec and it continues to smooth out nicely. Will take a little more work but it has improved considerably. Great idea on the abrasive but so far it looks like it will be as smooth as my other Alox SAKs soon. Thanks for all the suggestions!
