Hi All,

Is the Vic Rescue worth $50? I have a chance to get one at that price and was wondering what you all thought. Was originally looking at a trekker or nomad or camper, but kinda like the flourescent color :o

Thanks,

-Coop

It MAY be a great price, depending upon how much the seller will charge for "shipping and handling". I've seen a few real scams (particularly on eBay) where the seller charges what seems like a low price and then adds on $20 or $30 or more for "shipping and handling".

Sure,

Ebay. When I lost the bid the seller emailed me as a second chance offer. My high bid was $50. Be sure about the shipping. Some sellers wanted $25 and up for shipping.-Coop

i have 2-one of mine stays in the car for ...mishaps

i love stay glo-i prefer to all others..its amazing when youre actually outside and you set it down or drop it-easy to spot especially in less than bright sunlight, and especially at dusk -the uv really bounces off the scales

let me say this
it is very task specific

it is not what i would take camping- would take a stay glo climber or, my usual-a plain old red Ranger...i digress

the saw is for glass (and works poorly indeed on wood-trust me on this ive tried it-the glass saw has a single row of teeth designed to cut....glass!)
there is no can opener-there is a point to break windows
it is a hefty knife -if you carry your stuff very far or very much of it

if you are an SAK enthusiast by all means...i did

they do glow nicely, the one hand knife and belt knife work well
the belt holder is unique in color and design

It IS task specific-

frankly i use mine almost not at all for the above reasons-weight and bulk versus function

but they are cool and interesting to us sak types

Thanks for all the replies.

I plan to carry it on my duty belt... see my spydie thread about breaking my endura:mad:

It should be here tomorrow.

Best

Ebay,

It seems that if you lose the bid, they may offer you a knife for that amount as a second chance offer. Probably has to do with how many they have and need to move.

Ok, received it tonight.

It's real nice and funny looking sheath too.

The one thing that I noticed is that there are 2 models. Difference being that one has a serrated blade with a thumb hole. The model I got has a smooth blade with the regular fingernail groove. The rest is the same.

I'll take it to work tomorrow and I'll post when I use it.

Pre-2001 (actually late 80's to 2001) i used to make pretty all my knife purchases from Cutlery Shoppe. Great catalog's and customer service!

However i just noticed they now have a "100$ minimum order" stipulation for foreign buyers.
Any recent Canadian Cutlery Shoppe customers here?
Does "Foreign" include Canada?
I emailed their customers service but i'm not hopeful on getting a reply.
If i do get a reply i'll post the gist of it here.
I really hate that minimum order business. I understand it but come on a 100$? That seems a little high.
I guess i can always go through ebay, no minimum purchases required there.
lol.

Just heard from Cutlery Shoppe, very fast and friendly reply.
Unfortunately Cutlery Shoppe lumps Canada in as a "foreign" nation. If you are Canadian and don't want to spend at least 100$ then don't bother to order.
:thumbdn:
D'oh!
Lately most of my knife purchases are in the 15-75$ range. I do however tend to buy news toys a couple of times a month. (Usually i don't get dinged by Canada customs).
I was looking at getting a Vic Swisstool or Rescuetool, or maybe that Buck Woodsman from Cutlery Shoppe. But now i think i'll just do it via ebay.
oh well their loss.

Felinevet ships to Canada
Thanks yeah i know i've ordered stuff from felinevet, a great seller!
Its just that i used to buy a LOT of stuff from cutlery shoppe. In the 80's and 90's they were THE mail order cutlery place. I was a loyal customer but lately the quantity and variety of their stock has shrunk. And their 100$ minimum has driven me away from buying there. And its not that i don't spend much on cutlery, because i do, in the past 8 months i've spent around 500$. But usually 50$ here 50$ there.
With all the competition from new online sellers and ebay it seems to me that having too rigid policies could hurt business. I've shipped things to the states and i've had friends family members ship things from the states to me. Its not that much more of an effort to fill out a very simple form. Maybe instead of a minimum 100$ restriction they could just charge a paperwork fee for foreign orders.
Anyway this is way off topic sorry if i sidetracked things.
