Concerning the VIC (formerly Wenger) Evo Grip 18.

Can the VIC/WENGER Fingernail file blade be sharpened like a Pen Blade, or does it have the wrong (or no) heat treat?
(I'm guessing swapping in the pen blade will require several other changes - backsprings, blade order top and bottom ... basically the entire knife would need rebuilt and modified.)

If the fingernail file blade can be sharpend:
Is a 10 DPS "V" edge, or 10° single bevel chisel edge "best"?

Can the single purpose and redundent phillips blade be swapped for the multi-purpose corkscrew blade without changing the backspring or any other parts?

I like the work done by fit to survive on YT and the SAK mods thread here might be also a good place to ask.

Every sheet metal (heat treated or not) can be sharpened.
As far as I know they use different steel for tools as they use for blades.
Try and report the result.

I have no facts to offer but the other than blade tools might be slightly softer than the knife for some strength - but then again we are talking about file here so it might be harder.
Comparably to victorinox's soft steel it might not make much of a difference.

I did sharpen the tip of the finger nail cleaner in MiniChamp to micro screwdriver and it feels sharp but I can't tell about the edge rentention. :D

I found an old thread that gives information published by Victorinox. I don't know if that's still valid as it is ~ 20 years old.
Blades 56 HRC.
Saw, scissors, nailfile 53 HRC.
Openers, reamer, screwdrivers 52 HRC.
Corkscrew, springs 49 HRC.

Hope that helps.

That makes sense to me. I know Camillus & other makers of the 'demo' style camper patterns made for the military spec'd those in a similar manner, with only the blades heat-treated for edge-holding, and other tools like the screwdrivers, etc. less hard and treated for toughness (resistance to breakage) instead of edge-holding & temper.

I have one Victorinox SAK with a slightly twisted tip on the screwdriver. In doing that, trying to loosen a (apparently) too tight screw with it, I wondered about the heat treat for it.
