I am thinking of ordering the VIC Fisherman and Hunter models to take on fishing and hunting trips along with my arsenal of other knives. What experience do you have with VICs especially these models? Good..Bad..Ugly..?
They just seem to be very handy and would like to own a few. Thanks.

They are good quality, handy, reliable, easy to maintain and I never leave home without one.

I don't believe there is a better value on the planet than the SAK. I have had many and used them for everything. No matter what some people say about them, The Vic's are serous tool that can handle a multitude of jobs. I have a Hunter and the Angler both. I use the Explorer more than any of my other ones.

Don't have those models. Have had the Tinker, et. al.

Good knives. Very useful. Well made. A good value.

I have the models you mentioned, plus others. Vics are some of the best knives out there that give the most bang for the buck. I've used them for food prep to hikes with no worries. Get a few and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Yep, SAKs are amazing. Check out the Farmer as well, and if you want a bigger one, the RuckSack or Trekker.

They're a favorite with the Wilderness and Survival crew here :p

I think they're the best knives in the world, at any price. They don't use new super steels, but they take a great edge, they're easy to sharpen and they're built like tanks. My alox Soldier feels just as solid and sturdy as some of my knvies that cost ten times as much... and it's beyond scary sharp.

Get one or two (it'll turn into fifteen or twenty if you're not careful), I've never been let down by a Victorinox.

The Fisherman is a handy knife to take on freshwater fishing trips. You'll get good use of the scissors (cutting line), the hook disgorger, and the hook (tying knots). The main blade is not ideal for filleting even small fish, but will work in a pinch. A dedicated line cutter, needlenose pliers or hemostats, and fillet knife would take up much more space. Plus, you're getting a quality tool.

I have a few of them (Vic and Wenger) and both are top notch. You won't probably need anything else. Long ago the main drawback was that they were not fitted for one hand opening and didn't have locking blades but they do now. And you can also choose among serrated, plain, combo, etc. Great knives at great prices.

Go for the liner-lock, single-handed-opening, 111mm, Victorinox models.
It's a huge difference when compared to the traditional 91mm or 84mm SAKs.
It's the next big step for SAKs and the most logical move for the new breed of "tactical users" who has never used or owned an SAK prior to this.

Thanks for the feedback fellas. I hope after buying these VICs i dont catch the same bug as I did with Spyderco.:D

BTW... +1 on the Rucksack!
One of the first SAKs I purchased and it has served me well for all-around field use for years.

Regards,
Mike

You guys are doing it to me again, I just ordered the fisherman, and the hunter. NOW I have to order the rucksack or I will be losing sleep. Thanks. This is you guys fault you know.:grumpy: :D

I started carrying a SAK as an EDC in 1982. You will be quite pleased with your choices. My current EDC is the 111mm Adventurer model although I have more than a couple SAKS. I started with the Tinker. Moved the Soldier. Moved to the Adventurer.
