A popular online SAK retailer is currently offering two different models: a standard Soldier, and an "'08 Soldier - Final Production Run" for a few bucks more. It looks to have some engraving on the blade. Is this this only difference? That it's a commemorative model?

Yep, the Final Production Run has only 5,000 pcs. and represents the end of the Alox Soldier. It is primarily a collector's item.

Hey, as long as I've got your attention: Is the One Hand Trekker basically the same knife as the New Soldier?

I've placed an order for one each of the New Soldier and the Original Soldier. I want one of each to round out the collection. I've been carrying a SAK of some kind since about 1972.

I've already got an original Soldier, but the blade doesn't close quite right. I may want to send that one off for repair.

Hey, it happens when you get old. ;) (I just turned 49.) All of a sudden, things you've just been "doing", it turns out you've been doing for a long time. I recently realized I've been playing guitar for 35 years. You would think I'd have figured it out by now! :D

I blame the Soldier for my Alox SAK addiction. First the Soldier and now the various Pioneers. There is just something about the silver Alox knives that really appeals to me.
