Vic Soldier vs Recruit

Would you choose a Vic Soldier or a Recruit for edc? I have both and just can not decide which one to go for. The Soldier has a larger (better) blade and feels much tougher (I like that):D . On the other hand the 84 mm Recruit is more pocket-friendly and has an extra blade + tweezers (you never know when you may need tweezers). So, I like the Soldier better but can see other advantages with the Recruit. What do you people think?

love my soldier. tried the 84 mm line, such as the cadet, and just liked the extra heft of the solider. it is perfect IMO.

Hmmm, its like trying to compare a Toyota Tacoma to a Toyota Corolla.

Having carried both, ( the sak's not the cars) I leaned more toward the soldier untill very recently. For about 20 years I edc'ed a red pioneer, which is basicly the same knife as a soldier but with the keyring. I took great comfort in the bullet proof feel of it, and it is a great knife.

But of late, I am drawn to a lighter weight knife for edc pocket carry, and am trying out an old 84mm tinker, and a recruit. Both are very good edc knives, with the recriut being a bit lighter.

Its a hard call to pick between the tinker and recruit, but between the soldier and recruit, these days I'd go with the recruit for general edc, but keeping my old pioneer on standby for camping and other trips. I've stashed it in my PSK for an emergency.

I'd pick up both:D I carried a soldier for a long while before i got my farmer (soldier with a wood saw). It's a very hefty, wel built knife for the outdoors. I usually pack it as a back up to my locking SAK fireman when i camp.
However, EDC for me is another story. Personally, I like the SAKs with the pick and tweezers, and I like them thin. I carry a spyderco if i have heavy cutting to do, but my 84mm Bantam gets the nod most of the time. Blade, combo opener, screwdriver, tweezers, toothpick...that's all i need:) Now a waiter would be nice to have that corkscrew;) The recuit would be a nice choice as well.

I carry a Spartan, however, I will tell you that my small blade gets more use than the large blade.

I used to carry a Soldier and a Cadet, but now I usually split the difference and carry a nylon handled Tinker. Given the choice you have, I would probably lean toward the recruit, since now I don't do much heavy duty cutting day to day.

The tweezers might just about be able to manage a small splinter, but I've never found them that useful; they really don't work very well.

My very first SAK years ago was a Recruit, (still have it) today I usually carry a Farmer. Every once in awhile I carry a Soldier, or Pioneer.

So if it's between a Soldier or a Recruit... I vote for a Soldier for EDC.

If you really need a toothpick & tweezers... Look to a Small or Large Tinker.
