Vic Spartan pocket sheath?

I finally bought a SAK Spartan and I love it. I never thought that I would use it as much as I do. My only complaint is that I am used to clipped folders so having it at the bottom of my pocket tends to bother me. So I am looking for a pocket slip case or maybe a horizontal belt slip sheath. I have seen them done here before and even attempted myself but failed spectacularly. Anyone have any recomendations? Maybe there is a maker here on the fourms who does these?

Thanks
JT

Have you thought about a belt hanger? Victorinox do one themselves. I use a Victorinox belt pouch but it only does vertical carry, not horizontal.

From what I can find it is looking like the belt hanger is my best bet. I am also looking into the possibility of a pocket clip mod.

I have seen leather pocket sheaths with a clip, usually for high end folders like Wm. Henry. I don't know where to tell you to look, but they're out there.

Good luck!

The Victorinox belt clip sheath is pretty good -- lightweight, and convenient. It's a bit bulky for inside a pocket, though (would be better without the fold-over snap closure). For pocket carry, something like the WH clip sheath or even just a pocket dangler clip attached to the key ring on the knife might work better.

I have been looking around and I am thinking that the pocket dangler is the best option and the least bulky. Anyone know of anyplace that has these in stock? Everywhere is sold out as far as I can tell.

I think Fenix Outfitters has the original Munroe Dangler, and I just today got an email from Munroe that they've got another batch of the updated MK2 version in stock. Try info@munroedesigns.com.

For SAK pocket carry, I see no real need for fancy. Mine goes into my pocket by a shoestring looped on my belt. A spring clip holds the SAK suspended by its key ring, adjusted for position by knotting the string. It is largely unnoticed, if that matters, hardly a fashion statement one way or another. Why spend more?

I carry my Vic in my watch pocket if its thin enough. OR, I use a leather slip sheath that goes in my back pocket for my three layer and thicker ones. It holds the tool upright and to the far left side of my back left pocket. You might give it another try. I carry my Explorer this way daily.

Just soak the leather (I use pretty thick stuff. Maybe 8oz or better) for a bit after cutting out a rough size, place the flattest part against the leather and fold over a flap so it fits snugly around the knife. Take a couple of thumb tacks and pin the flap, with the knife still inside, to the rest of the leather and stick it out in the sun for a day. It'll draw up nice and tight and the leather will set a mold much like kydex. The moisture shouldn't hurt the knife. A vic is a tough thing to rust. Oil it up first if you are worried, but I've never had an issue.

From there, it's all finish and as detailed as you want to make it. You can sew it, rivet it, or whatever. Heck, I didn't even sew the very bottom of mine because it didn't need it. All it needs to do is hold it upright. Once you get that done, trim it to fit in your pocket and you're set. I'm as amateur as they come, but I finished up this little project in as little as 20 minutes worth of work. Quite handy:)

Copying from someone on this forum, I attach my SAK to an S-biner, and clip it to my pocket, it works very well. I found #2 work better than #1, easier to release.

You told me this on an earlier post when I was looking at the hangers. I tried your suggestion and it works great. BTW you can get all kinds of shoe string or para cord and color match your wardrobe. ;)

Here is my take on the same idea,

It can also double up as a wrist lanyard.

It really doesn't matter what knots you use, I just happen to like the look of the lanyard knot.

Gareth had the same idea that I had. The only difference is that I melted the two ends of a length of paracord together, rather than just tying them. The great thing is that it actually keeps the knife out of the bottom of the pocket, making it easier to carry some of the thicker SAK's.

That's the idea exactly. When I was playing with this I took a bit of time getting the length just right, so that the SAK would hang down the side of my pocket and not quite touch the bottom. As you say, you can then pocket carry much thicker/heavier SAKs in comfort.

The fact it worked out as a wrist lanyard was just a bit of good luck TBH.
