I have 2 vic spartans, and on both of them the screwdriver/bottle opener/wirestripper tool opens to 90 degrees and locks in place, then locks open again when fully open at 180degrees. This is my only Vic SAK that does that (also have a huntsman and camper) Is there any reason for this feature?

The tool you mention locks in the 90 degrees position too on my Spartan(s). But it also does this on (for instance) my Swisschamp and Climber. Doesn't it lock in the 90 degrees position on all 91 mm SAKs? The screwdriver/bottle opener/wirestripper does *not* lock in the 90 degrees position on the 84 mm models as far as I know.

They changed the design of the screwdriver sometime in the late 80's.I had a Passenger model bought in 85 that the screwdriver didn't lock at 90 degrees then I bought a Craftsman in 91 that does.As to why I believe it is so you can get extra leverage by using the 90 degree position,or at least thats how I use it.Also a kind of safety so the tool doesnt close on your fingers it it slips. The phillips across from the mag glass has the same feature.
