I have been checking out the Vic Spartan with Translucent handles in the local store and would like to buy it for EDC. Are the translucent handles as good as the old ones in your opinion? I already have a Spartan with the old handles but you can never get too many SAK:s, however I want to be sure that they are of good quality and not just made to look cool.

The translucent scales are of excellent quality. While they don't tend to get scratches any more, the scratches do show up a little more on the translucent scales. I personally love them. Go for it.

If you have got already an old Spartan, with the translucent you can get a Spartan Lite .. unless you don't like the additional bulk of the LED and real phillips screwdriver ..

Being plastic the translucenbt scales scratch just as easily as the regular cellidor/plastic scales.

However it is very easy to bring them back to a nice shine by simply using some good car polish.

Best is not to get them scratched in the first place by pocket carrying them in a pouch of some sort - I like those Sack-Ups

If you have access to SOSAK - here's a thread about some transulcent Spartans I refurbished - I actually got them at a great price secondhand from felinevet

$5 Spartans

The translucent scales are nice but scratches and scuffs will be visible on them, probably more visible than on opaque cellidor scales. I wish the translucent scales came in more colors for the 91mm knives.
