Where is a good place to get a belt pouch for my Vic Trekker? I saw that Vic makes a nylon pouch - is it a good choice? Any other ideas?

I actually read (don't know if it was here, CPF, or EDCForums) of a guy who cut a length of bicycle innertube, slipped it on his belt, and then slipped his knife in between the innertube and his belt. The elasticity of the innertube kept the knife securely in position, parallel with and alongside his belt.

I was looking for a belt pouch for my Bundeswehr OHT and found a black leather Spirit pouch that worked great. Basically it's the one you see in the review posted by tcolling, but without the clip (which I didn't like too much, it made me feel like somebody was trying to pull down my pants... :D ).

Classic, strong leather, I paid €10 ($13) for it. It could be to a bit too large for the regular Trekker, but you could fill it with some edc stuff (a mini flashlight?) that you usually carry in your pockets. On the other hand, the nylon pouch is a durable product and you should buy it with confidence. I'm a leather fan, but I have to admit that it tends to scratch too easily and some people don't like this kind of "aging" process. ;-)

That would be me. :)

Hands down, my favorite is the Victorinox swivel belt clip pouch. They make 'em in several sizes for different SAK widths. Take a look at this review that I wrote for sosakonline:

Thanks, Tim!

I was picturing a belt loop so it could not come off (or rub on my skin) since it would double as a survival knife. How tight is the clip? Does it add much weight?

I think I bought my knife from Feline but do not have his web address - could you post it in thread?

The clip is very secure (tight) and yet it's not hard to put on or take off your belt. It doesn't seem heavy at all to me.

FelineVet is reachable by email at this address. Just describe to him what you're looking for: felinevet@sosakonline.com

Enjoy,

My Vic OH Trekker fits perfectly in my old leather Leatherman wave sheath. Also fits my SOG paratool and Tomcat sheaths (which can be worn vertically or horizontally).Personally I do kinda like horizontal carry.
And of course the Vic swivel sheath also looks kinda cool too.

Is it easy to slip in and out of the tube?

Is it secure?

I use two hands to reinsert the knife, one hand to spread open the inner tube and the other hand to insert the knife. The split ring I installed on the OHT makes removal of the knife from the inner tube a merely one-finger job.

It is very secure. No worries about the knife falling out.

It all depends on the diameter of the inner tube you use. I asked the local bike shop for an assortment of used inner tubes from his garbage pail at the end of a weekend and was rewarded with several inner tubes for my projects.

I use inner tubes and O-rings as flashlight grips, too:

Yeah innertubes are handy. I use them on flashlights too. Makes the c-cell and d-cell maglites more winter friendly! Also i have a couple of fixed blades that i haven't made sheaths for yet, the inner tube slipped over the blades protects the blades from dings while they are stored and prevents unintentional cutting. Actually the inner tube can be stretched over knife handles too, voila "poor mans kraton"!

I was gonna say the same, also if you've throwen out all those gerber knives, and still have the sheaths ;). The ones from the multitools and folding knives, hold a sak pretty well.
