(if in the wrong section could the Mods please move me to the correct one)
Hi, thanks for allowing me onto the Site. I might be in the wrong section but I would like some help to identify a knife and its age.
I buy at auctions, mainly Glass and Crystal with a few antiques, and sometimes find knives. This one I didn't even see in the box. I have done some research but the answers are so varied I could use some help if possible. Similar items are seen as 17th century, it seemed unlikely to me, and others Victorian. Vry similar Patterns and style. I think it looks Persian. It is 34cm Sheathed and 31cm out. Small traces of Gilding left in places. It must have been a stunning piece. The Blade is strong and from my limited knowledge does not seem to be a 'Tourist Piece', which I have seen a few of, and nicely balanced. One Dealer friend I spoke to thought 1840-1860 rather than the earlier date seen online. the blade is loose in the Sheath. It has what looks like leather inside the sheath and a piece of leather where the blade meets the handle with remnants of what I assume is a glue of some sort. Any suggestions
