OK, Victorinox's 2016 English pocket knife catalog is here:

So what's new?

Mechanic is back by popular demand. Lumberjack is back, renamed Walker. Cybertool S and Cybertool M have their old names back, Cybertool 29 and Cybertool 34. So much for the new.

In 84 mm, My First Victorinox with saw blade, Excelsior, Baker's Knife, Watchmaker 60, and Alox Bantam are gone. Too bad about the Alox Bantam. Now you see it, now you don't.

In 91 mm, Champion is gone. Cybertool L (old name Cybertool 41) is gone.

In 93 mm Alox, only three are left: Pioneer, Electrician, Farmer.

Many 111 mm slide lock knives are gone: Adventurer, Alpineer, Atlas, Cowboy, Equestrian, Hunter, Picknicker, Rucksack.

111 mm liner lock: Sentinel with the nail nick is gone. Locksmith is gone. Dual Pro AKA Dutch Army Knife is gone — and that's a shame, my favorite big one!

It also seems that 54875, the non-serrated one-hand Trekker in black is gone. There's a camo version that's still non-serrated, though.

I've never tried the really big ones. How does the Rangergrip 78 compare to the one-hand Trekker? Same tools, different package.

I see the swisschamp there, or did I miss something?

I wonder if they are cleaning up the line in prep for new designs. With the Walker, maybe they will do more combo-tool knives? leaves an opening for the scientist or yeoman.
Too bad about the slide-locks, but I guess they are not as popular? I guess they would have a good handle on the sales numbers, and know which ones were more popular, between the rangers and the Vics. It was getting very cluttered.

Champion Plus was a seven layer knife, a Swiss Champ minus the pliers.

Thanks to Buck_Fan for the photos.

I don't think the Champion Plus was even in their retail catalog. It was an updated 1980s reissue for Walmart in 2003 or 2004, dropped in 2005; dealers had them again in 2007; out of production for sure by 2011. But supply didn't dry up until last summer, and I got confused. Sorry about that.

Hard to say. My guess is they're cleaning up their product line to stay in business with production in Switzerland. I don't expect to see a lot of innovation or 20th century revivals until the global economy improves..

Remember Victorinox's email to SAKwiki.com in August 2008?

At the moment we are developing an improving the spring for the locking blade and slider system.

I don't think the liner lock will be the end of their product development.

From a retail standpoint, it makes sense to give stock time to clear before adding new lines or products in. Retailers hate having old stock to clear out.

As an aside I like the slide locks. I don't need a pry tool, and that little bit of weight makes a difference in selection for me. Its too bad about the rucksack, but directly against the trekker, its a hard sell.
