Went the Sheeple friendly route and got myself a Victorinox.
I saw it online for approx $14 shipped from a certified Vic distributor (non-paid dealer link removed) and all but the online description and the sticker on the box says "12 Function Matt Finish". I was under the impression Vic's had specific brand names. And from the size and functions it looks a lot like the Spartan to me. Its got "Officer Suisse" stamped on one side of the base of the large blade and Victorinox Swiss made Stainless on the other and everything. On the Vic website, this product is not listed and there is no matt finished Spartan.

Here's some pics with my much abused Kershaw Scamp and surprisingly good $1.5 LED flashlight.

Questions
1. What is it? Is it a discontinued Spartan or something?
2. Have I been pasted with a Faketorinox?

I believe these are the "Economy" line from Vic. The scales are very tough but the logo will wear off quickly. These models seem to be the exact same knives just with the different handle material. I own a couple and have never had any issues.

Thank you, Charlie.
I bought it because I liked the matt finish better than the shiny lacquer types.
I was quite sure its not a knock-off since basecamp is the primary distributor for Vic in India but I wanted to check. ONLY the scales are different? Not the steel or anything else? Cheaper washers maybe? How much do they possibly save on the scales?
And the logo is already dropping silver flakes. Cant say I care too much about that tho :)
Thanks again.

I replaced the original, worn and scraped cellidor scales on my Vic Mechanic with some nylon scales that I got from Swissbianco, just like the ones on yours. I actually like them much better as they don't seem to show scratches and dings like the cellidor scales do.

That's what I thought. Matt just feels more durable. I'm actually planning to make a combination sheath for my Becker 14 and the Vic to go on my belt.

Yup! It's part of their economy line. And the matte finish is good for hiding scratches if you use it hard. I like your Becker 'tweener photo-chops btw. :D:thumbup:

I intend to EDC it so its gonna get scuffed at least.
And I hadn't seen a twener before I made the photo-chops, I shit U not! The blade is actually off a BK5 Camp pic I re-sized and the handle is obviously off a a 11 and a 14. I was fantasizing about an Eskabar like knife with that beautiful BK5 and now BK15 shape. Discovered I was obviously not the first either. I like to think if the blade shape existed in the right size I might have taken a page off the fabled person who grafted the Necker Blade on the Izula Handle.
There's knife porn and there is mental masturbation :D
