After reading all the posts about the Vic Bantam (minimalist sak), I decided to add to my sak collection and replace the recruit as an edc. I couldn't decide which to order, so I got both the alox and black scales models. $12.99 for alox and $4.99 for what I'm pretty sure is cellidor (sp?).

I thought about the red scaled model, but at twice the price, the black was a no brainer. It looks like most black bantams lack the keyring (a feature I seldom use, even on a classic!). I guess this makes it even more minimalist (oxymoron?).

I also considered the waiter; however, I don't like the corkscrew. Since I'm not a wine drinker and I would probably end up losing the jeweler's screwdriver if I added one, the bantam with its cleaner back made more sense. The other consideration was the alox (not available with corkscrew).

After shopping around and researching, I figured I'd order one of each, pocket carry the one I like best and sell the other or keep it as part of my collection. I'm not sure which of the two will be a better edc, the slimmer alox or the thicker black bantam with tweezers and toothpick.

Any thoughts on the bantam vs. waiter debate or the alox vs. cellidor for edc?

I prefer cellidor for EDC. Since it's going to get scratched handling it, might as well get use out of it unless it's going to be kept in a display case, devoid of human contact.

I have a Bantam for my survival kit, but there's not enough on it for me to make it my EDC. That honor goes to my Yeoman!

Just got a black Bantam.

Great looks complete with,

Good blade
Flat screwdriver
Wire stripper
Bottle cap lifter
Can opener
Wire bender
Tweezer
Toothpic
Phillips screwdriver

Screwdrivers lock at both 90 and 180 degrees with authority.

Thats EDC for me.

Put my one handed tac knife on a drawer. Moved my GAK to my trunk kit.

Oh, and it's "CUTE" to the general public too.

Does your black bantam have the keyring? Did you consider the alox model?
I'm still waiting for mine to arrive, but if the alox model is to "nice" or thin for edc, I'll probably use the black one I ordered for edc.

I've got an alox one. Its just about the perfect EDC "office" knife. Its small, light, good looking and useful. Blade is very sharp, bottle opener works okay (those are my two basic requirements!).

Mine does not have a keychain ring on it. That makes it even slimmer and lighter in the pocket.

this past winter I bought 2 used bantams for $10 total. They have the red scales and key ring. Because they are lightweight I find myself carrying them more often than some other SAK model. A blade, cap lifter and slotted screwdriver take care of 99% of my needs anyway.

I have Alox and Cellidor models.

I prefer the Cellidor version. The Alox is a little too thin to be comfortable and I find the toothpick and tweezers of the Cellidor version really useful.

The waiter didn't appeal to me as I don't often drink wine.
But I do like this minimalist SAK: I bought one for my daughter - a Matt Lumberjack.
It's a Bantam with a saw! (Nylon scales though - not Cellidor, but I think I prefer the Nylon.)

If you chose the SAK with the corkscrew, dont worry about losing the small screwdriver by accident. It wont come unscrewed unless the c/s is open. guy

Along those lines, I've taken to replacing the keyrings on my all my SAKs (with the exception of the big, locking Adventurer) with the smaller sized keyrings from the Classic line. Every bit as functional, but hardly noticeable and doesn't flop around as much. Recommended.

That is a handy looking sak. Does Victorinox currently make them? Any idea where I could get one.

I do not believe they currently make that model though you could buy the My First Victorinox Plus model which has that set up but a blade with a blunt tip as it is designed for youngsters.
