Wanted one for a while, but not badly enough to pay what they were asking, spotted a good deal on the big river site a couple days ago and pulled the plug, $42 and free shipping I didn’t hesitate long.
It arrived today, first SAK with plus scales, I like it so far, I don’t like how victorinox has cheapened the keyring attachment, it’s no longer polished steel, but the same thin aluminum as the liners, I’m sure it will hold up the same, just looks cheaper to me.
Also the tip on the main blade is not as pointy as my other Vics, it will be fine after a proper sharpening, and overall it’s the same quality Vic is known for, just my first observations.
Time will tell if it kicks the spartan out of my pocket, I already carry a Swiss tool spirit everyday, so the SAK in my pocket is redundant, I just enjoy carrying it, I figured that the compact would add some tools the Swiss tool lacks while still being my preferred pocket size. The pen, pin, parcel hook with nail file, corkscrew, and eyeglass screwdriver are tools my belt carried multitool lack, not to mention the scissors seem more useful in the compact than the stubby yet heavy duty pair in the Swiss tool.
The scissor layer is thicker than I thought it would be, I think this is my only SAK with scissors, other than the classic and Swiss tool. Just has never been a toolset I placed much value in, but I will give these a fair shake.
The new compacts first official use since unboxing was to open a bottle of moosehead. It works just fine for that, surprised how thin the combo tool is, I have another smaller SAK with the combo tool and don’t recall it feeling so thin, will have to compare someday.
