Was reading a thread and lead me to a YouTube video on an Evolution series knife. While reading the comments a comment was made about Victorinox discontinuing this series but that was almost 3 years ago and i see they are still available at the usual reputable dealers.
Is Victorinox still considering ending this series or did they change their minds? Or was it Fake news lol.

I heard that Victorinox wanted to slowly phase out the evolution series(Evo) as they were Wenger designs, but i can neither prove or disprove that statement, so take it for what its worth.
What i do know is Victorinox moves very slowly when invoking change. Well just have to see

Interesting. Well their slothfulness is my gain. And there are some good sales on them ATM.
As i’ve been learning more about SAK knives i will definitely be looking in antique stores in particular their knife displays.

they phasing out the evo series?!?
daRn. I been thinking of a Evo 17/S17 ... guess i best stop procrastinating and get one in 2026. ☹️
(I inherited a S18, dislike lock button blocking scissors, and have less than no/zero use for the back side #2 phillips screwdriver. I use the corkscrew much more often ... carry mini screwdriver ... untie knots in small cordage/laces ... "someday" carry Fire Ant tinder ...)

Yes maybe it’s a ploy to get us to buy them before the are no longer produced? Seems to be working.
Ordered a Evo 14 grip.

I had an S17. Truth be told I thought it was a slipjoint i didnt know the knife locked. Their style of linerlock seems A-- backwards and dangerous as you have to push the linerlock to the right instead of to the left, putting your thumb tip in the line of fire. Personally I think that's dumb and if youre not paying attention or thinking about something else when doing it, accidents happen. The evolution series (evo) is still widely available including the official victorinox US website. You don't have to rush per se, but i wouldn't wait on it forever

I thought a S17 had the Packlock, which doesn’t make sense to me considering your post I quoted. What am I missing?

I was both referring to their liner locks in general in which I have a couple as well as mentioning the locking blade on the S17, not its type

Ok but how could you not realize the S17 had a locking blade? If you couldn’t see the obvious lock release you would have at least felt it.

I guess i will know what you’re referring to when i get mine after Christmas. Would have had it Monday but ordered it the next day and big difference in shipping time. You would figure one day later would make it a Tuesday delivery but not so? The Evo 14 is set for Tuesday though and i ain’t gonna lie i do look forward to deliveries once i buy something. Like Christmas all year long. Anyone else feel this way?

David, I can confirm that my local Victorinox dealer had previously told me that the 85mm Evolution series is no longer available for re-stock. Their current stock at the shop is all they have left, so when those sell out, that’s that. It wasn’t “fake news”.

However, it wasn’t a discontinuation of the entire Delemont range. For example, the Rangergrips, Rangerwood & the smaller 65mm models are still available for re-stock.

Other Victorinox models that are no longer available for re-stock are the entire 74mm series and most of the 84mm series.

The Evolution “S” series have a distinct push-down tab with “lock” etched on it, to unlock the main blade. It was inherited from the original Wenger Evo series.

This picture is from a Wenger S16, showing this lock release tab. I find it quite easy, safe & intuitive to use, compared to the standard Victorinox locking blade design which uses an “opposite” liner lock that can put fingers in harm’s way when trying to release the main blade.

I wonder why Victorinox changed it? I will check it when my S14 arrives. 👍🏻
I had a opportunity to order the Evo s17 for $44 but now it’s back up to $65 or $68 so i’ll keep watching for a sale. I don’t even know if i will like them over the 91mm Victorinox knives? In the end if i don’t i heard they make great gifts? 😂

Victorinox maintained this lock release tab in their 85mm Evolution lock blade models too. You will see a similar lock release tab on your S14.

Here, you can see the same lock release tab on my Victorinox EvoWood S557.
