Victorinox Farmer or Trekker

I have an ongoing debate between the Victorinox Farmer and the Trekker.

I love the Farmer, although it is a bit too small for me; I can't get a full grip on the handle.

The Trekker could handle about any situation and the handle is the perfect size for me, but it is somewhat large for pocket carry.

What's your opinion on these two fine knives? Which one do you carry?

Thanks,
Raja

Both are two large for pocket carry IMO. I've switched to the pioneer since I rarely used the saw.
A simple horizontal belt sheath worked well for me. There is also room under the scale of the OHT to hold some 2-56 nuts and set it up with a pocket clip.

Trekker, but with one handed opening is my choice every day of the work week:

I have them both. I prefer the non serrated One hand Trekker.

I carry the Trekker when I head out of the city without a fixed blade. Mainly when fishing or putting the canoe in the river. It's large locking blade and fast easy opening make it a good choice when I don't think I need a fixed blade but want more knife than the Farmer.

The Farmer is a favorite daily carry of mine and is almost always backup to a fixed blade when I head out of the city and take a fixed blade along as my primary knife.

The Farmer is a great backup that can easily be carried in a pocket while the Trekker has a great toolset for camping and hiking but it's size makes it a sheath carry only knife for me.

I assume that pic is a special modified SAK? I love it. I carry a Tinker, but would love to have it as a OHO with a pocket clip.

For me, the One Handed Trekker is a bit thick for pocket carry (three layer I believe), but if I like the saw available, I'd probably put up with it. I seldom have use for a saw and if I am out in the woods and think I might need a saw, I'll carry a folding saw (Silky) as a separate tool. I could envision an emergency situation where I might not have a saw blade and find it useful, but that would be rare.

I would suggest that you carry it in a Vic belt pouch which are inexpensive in either leather or nylon or slip it into a front pouch on a fixed blade sheath. The Vic pouches work just fine.

I carry a 111 mm SAK every day in my pocket, but it is a two layer.

I carry a Alox Soldier more often than my GAK Trekker. The Trekker has barely seen the light of day.

Both. Farmer for daily carry in left front pocket under my wallet.

One Hand Trekker for a walk in the woods, standing up in my right back pocket. Lanyard added and a microlight.

(Victorinox Ranger in my gear bag, just because.)

If Victorinox gave the One Hand Trekker a Farmer stile, end-mounted awl, I’d carry it. Especially in the bush.

Lacking that, it’s the Farmer every day.

That's correct Rich, very straightforward mod. The scales are mostly hollow and will fit a couple 2-56 nuts with just a little tweaking.

I like the Farmers size, HD blade, side HD awl, and saw. It's just a great and compact package. Probably not ideal for primary, but I might prefer a small fixed blade to going to a larger pocket knife. I always use two hands to open so that has no effect on me.

ETA: I have no experience with the Trekker, but most people don't realize the farmers blade and awl are thicker and larger than the standard models. I like that in an outdoor tool.

The one hand feature is no biggie for me either. I actually have both the standard and one-handed Trekkers (camo and red) with plain edges.

Thanks for your responses. As several of you have commented, they are both excellent knives and they both have their place-based on the situation.

I have and love both of them, mostly for the amazing wood saws. If I just want to carry one knife when camping or hiking the NS OHT comes along. Was camping last weekend and it handled everything thrown at it- cutting the string we were using as a dog tie up, shaving branches for kindling , cutting a replacement tent pole down to size with the saw (graphite? fiberglass?)... it ended up on steak knife duty as well since we forgot our usual ones. It is a great all in one knife. But it is a bit large in the pocket.
On a typical day "EDC" ill carry a different one hand opener for knife duty in right front pocket next to wallet, and if there is a good chance ill be in the woods at some point the farmer goes in the left pocket with keys and leatherman squirt PS4.

Presently carrying a Tinker Deluxe, I have had the Trekker but it was lost. They both carry well in my pocket. I'd reccomend getting the Trekker and looser fitting jeans and it's just fine for pocket carry. If per chance it seems too heavy then start doing pushups everyday and eventually you'll handle the weight.
If I lose my present SAK I'll probably get the Hiker(?). It's the same style as the Trekker but with more tools. Then again I'll probably get something else. The only time I ever made up my mind on which SAK to get was when I pulled out the plastic and paid.
