does any one have a good review of this knife i would love to get but i need to see some more pics maybe a vid. Thanks in advanced

I'm curious to know if anyone has ever read a bad review of a Victorinox product. I'm so sold on them, I would buy practically anything they make, sight unseen, if it even sounded like it would meet my needs.

And they do.

Its a Victorinox.

For less than $30 you only get so much. All the tools and baldes can be found on other models.

What particularly are you interested in concerning the model?

If I'm correct, the Fieldmaster is just a Hunstman with a phillips screwdriver instead of a corkscrew. I've carried a Huntsman for many years. It's an awesome knife. My favorite SAK for outdoor adventures.

The main blade is unbelievably rust resistant and easy to sharpen. Not very abrasion resistant though. Cutting efficiency is excellent. The saw is positively sensational. The scissors work very well, although the spring needs replacing every so often. The can and bottle openers are first rate. The hook is occasionally useful. The awl is not as good as the one on the Victorinox Farmer, but still very useful. I prefer the corkscrew to a phillips driver, because the corkscrew can hold a Victorinox eyeglass screwdriver. The toothpick and tweezers are great little extras.

I'm not a huge fan of the small blade. A second blade of the same shape seems needlessly redundant to me. I would prefer a nail file instead, like Wenger does with their similar model, or an electrician blade like Victorinox has on their alox Electrician models. The electrician blade is a great and versatile whittling blade.

Of course, Victorinox is the gold standard for fit and finish at this price point. SAKs actually have better fit and finish than slipjoints that cost hundreds more. Amazing walk and talk on the blades.

I'm not a giant fan of the Victorinox cellidor scales. Victorinox actually makes an economy model with nylon scales, that is much more durable. I prefer to make my own scales. Here is a Hunstman that I made with green canvas Micarta scales.

Sorry this is a Huntsman review, but it should give you all of the pertinent information, other than the phillips driver. The phillips driver is the same driver that I have on some other SAKs. The backmounted driver is a bit short, so it can be hard to use sometimes. It is also a bit too polished, so it sometimes slips in the screw. Squaring off the driver with a file fixes this problem though.

the fieldmaster is the new soldier, except the colour and the opening hole on the blade, or like a rucksack, but with phillips screwdriver instead of the corkscrew
i have it, great saw in the woods, cuts like a chainsaw :D, good locking liner for the main blade and the bottle opener
overall, great knife to have around, if poossible get the soldier, to have the easy opening available, so you wont need a second knife when you carry it :D
hope this helps

how do you go about changing the scales like that

Not bloody easily!!!!! Hehehehehehe....... The scales are custom made by me, and attached with two-part epoxy. They are lot of work to make. Lots of hand fitting to get them perfect. And Micarta is not the most pleasant stuff to work with.

Not a review, but I will give it an endorsement. The fieldmaster is my favorite SAK. It has, to me, the best selection of tools and size. It is the SAK that I carry the most.

I upgraded my usual Tinker to the Fieldmaster for the last 10 of my 23 year Army career. I still carry one, and, because they are cheap, I have the next one in my "knife drawer" currently. When my grandsons turn 8 years old, I have permission from their parents to give them one of the smaller Tinkers (3¼" I think). The girls get a pink "Classic". When the boys turn 12 and enter Boy Scouts, they get a Fieldmaster. It is the SAK with the tools I use most.

I wish mine had Buzzbait's micarta scales! Beautiful work! Is it linen micarta?

Nope. That's green canvas Micarta.

I have worked with red linen Micarta though. It makes very nice SAK scales.

What kind of respirator do you use? Do you sand it wet or dry? They look great!

I don't know the model off the top of my head. It's a pretty cheap one I found at the hardware store. I don't need a tremendously good one though, as all of my sanding and grinding is done outdoors. The dust is just too messy and smelly to even think about letting into my garage, much less my house.

Buzzbait, you do some very fine work! I really like the package of green canvas micarta and a lanyard of parachute shroud line! You've got a niche here, any chance you'll try to exploit it? I know I'd be an early customer.
