Victorinox Fixed Blade

I was at the Victorinox store a couple weeks ago, and they had a pretty interesting fixed blade- it was a Victorinox branded fixed blade. I have never known Victorinox to make any that weren't kitchen knives, so this was a shocker. The sheath looked really top notch. The blade shape was nice too. The blade had forward micro-serrations (the very fine lateral type, almost like Diamond Cut kitchen knives-like, but not as extreme). The handle looked pretty good, the accents a little cheesy (finished wood would have been nicer). The price was reasonable to, only like $40.

Does Victorinox use SAK steel on these? Do they make any non-serrated models? Anyone see any info on them anywhere other than this post? I do recall reading that Victorinox was making/ was going to make a Sikh knife. I don't think this was it, since it resembled a traditional American type hunting/ bowieish knife.

The Victorinox India's "Big Kirpan" (Model No : VM.1001.BG.R1) does appear very much like a Bowie except for its sheathing system.

That doesn't quite look like the knife that I saw- however that does look like a very nice knife. The knife I saw was sheathed in a very high quality leather hunting-type sheath (brown finished).

The handle on this knife resembles very closely what I saw. I took a screenshot while on the Vic India site from the Flash presentation for the Khalsa series. The sheath is definetely NOT what I saw.

Download the Victorinox 3007 catalog look on page 24 of the PDF (page 18 of the catalog), if it is there then you know what it is. If it is not there then you must wait for the 2008 catalog to see if they list it.

Got no way of linking the actual Vicky catalog, but I am suggesting to download the Victorinox catalog and view the Sport + Camping section on page 18 (that's pdf pg24);
and check out the a couple of fixed blades there, namely:-
Hunting Knife 4.2176
Scout Knife 4.2241
Hunting Knife 4.2243
However, these are probably Bowies from Muela Knives of Spain.

Which if you look at the physical features of the Kirpan, could have been sourced or at the very least inspired from Spain too.

It is 4.2242- apparantely, it is a Muela product. That would make sense considering they do sell some other Muela products, however I do recall a Vic marking on the knife- maybe it was marked for Vic distribution or something. I'll have to pay more attention next time I stop by there.

Being a Muela isn't necesarily a bad thing- they make some decent blades for user hunting knives.

Thanks for the heads up:thumbup:
