victorinox eurosport $7.99 dose this knife use the same steel as regular vics the handle is a different material but oter than that it looks identical. its a mid sized 10 function model.
 
I think that you are referring to the Eurosport Recruit. As far as I know the blade steel is the same. The ones I have seen seem to have the same red plastic handles as well.
 
They might be Economy line knives- matte handles and a stamped, not inlayed Swiss cross. Some people actually prefer them because they seem grippier than the standard polished Cellidor.

The other difference is that Victorinox quality assurance only does spot checks on them, unlike the non-Economy models, which the walk-and-talk checks are performed on.
 
I recently got two new SAKs - a Picnicker and an Adventurer. The Adventurer has the matt scales and a very light Vic shield imprint (the 'economy' version)

I am happy to tell you the quality of both is 100% - absolutely fine... in fact I prefer the matt scales, the grip is nicer. Both knives are great...don't worry about the quality.
