I have seen conflicting information about the length of the original's length. Does anyone have one of these and can tell me if it is 91mm or 84mm? The original Golfer appears similar to the current Compact (which is a 91mm SAK), except it doesn't have the hook on the back spring or the pin. I have an old catalog (circa 1986) and the Golfer seems to be listed with the 91mm models, but annoyingly does not state the size in the description.

There has been more than one model Golfer. I believe that the model you are refering to is my favorite two layer SAK.

It is 84 mm and it does not have the key ring. I added the mini screwdriver to mine. It is a great model and it's too bad that Victorinox discontinued it.

Hey, rauburg thanks for that.

I saw some Golfer's in an old display in a shop some time ago and just assumed it was an old style Compact. I will have to go back and check it out to see if it is the 84mm version.

I have a golfer. It is 84 mm and the implements are a blade, combo tool, scissors, corkscrew, and a thin file (it's located on the backside with the corkscrew). Yes, it is basically a compact that has been decreased from a 91 mm to a 84 mm. None the less it is a great knife. If you don't believe you need a file then the compact might be a better choice because it is slightly more robust than the 84 mm.

Well, while most of the Golfers I have had were 84mm. I have had some 91mm. The original model number was #5036 and clearly appears to be 91mm. in the 80's catalogs I have.

There have been a number of different models that have been called the "Golfer" and the only reliable way of distinguishing them is to use the model #s.

There doesn't appear to be a current model called the "Golfer" listed by SwissArmy.com.

The first Golfer model probably is the most sort after - 84mm model (no keyring) with the older style combination tool (different shape and no squared tang)
circa ~early 80's Victorinox brochure -

Somtime around ~1987-88 the Golfer was a 91mm model

and by 1992-93 that model was re-named the Compact knife and is a current US model
(note the Swiss/international model # 1.3405 remained the same)

Most probably because another model with a divot tool was named the Golfer -
