Victorinox Model Differences

Does anyone know if different models are marketed under different names for different resellers?

I recently bought a Huntsman (love it), and found a Tinker in Target that is identical, including the price. But when I look at the Victorinox web page, the Tinker is much different, and smaller.

What gives?

A Victorinox Huntsman is in the whole world the Huntsman.
All resellers get the same.
In the size of the Huntsman (91mm) are 3 different Tinkers. The Tinker, the Super Tinker and the Deluxe Tinker. But all are different.
Your Tinker must have something different.

I have been to Champs (sporting goods store) and seen the SAK's with the tags all screwed up. The people who put the prices on them must get confused with the different models.

The Tinkers have changed frame sizes. Not sure when but I would estimate from the box styles that it's been in the last 10 years. The old Tinkers were on the 3 1/4" frame with the Tourist, Waiter and Sportsman. The newer ones are on the 3 1/2" Spartan, Climber, Ranger, etc. frame. Tinkers have always had the same tool selection.

My Tinker (purchased about 3 years ago now) has a locking main blade, no small blade, phillips screw drivers hidden under the scissors and pliers, wood and metal saw/file, eye glasses screwdriver in the corkscrew, and awl.. Which Tinker version is this?

It's not a Tinker. As far as I know, there are no locking 3 1/4" or 3 1/2" Victorinoxes. All of the locking models are 4 3/8". Your knife sounds like a Work Champ. I'll see if I can figure out how to copy and post a picture from the Swissarmybrands site.

Thanks Frank... You don't have to go to a lot of trouble. I'm convinced. My SAK is indeed 4.5" long, so WORKCHAMP it is, and the store where I bought it just had them labeled wrong I guess... Hey even Swiss vendors can make that mistake right :)

As a famous playwrite once said "What's in a name?" Its a great tool what ever model it happens to be. I just wish some of the tools were made of harder steel, but that's a problem with all SAKs, not just that one...
