Hi. Finally after being fascinated by the swisschamp as a young lad in the 80s i am now the proud owner of a Cybertool Lite (only took me 27 years to save up ;) ). I couldnt really justify the woodsaw as it made more sense to get the bit driver for my day job in IT. So hence i decided the CT lite offered the best selection of tools to match my life. Although i was tempted by the XLT (cybertool and champ tools combined) i decided it has too many layers and is too valuable to be an EDC SAK. So my next SAK will be the actual swisschamp to both compliment the CT and because even though the CT has everything i need, i cannot shake the feeling that i still need an actual original champ to please the 80s kid inside me :)

I am very impressed with the quality of my first Victorinox SAK, especially the pleasing quality snap of the backspring on all the tools. I just spend ages open and closing everything, so will probably wear out the spring mechanism long before the actual tools themselves lol.

Anyway finally managed to find a use for the multi purpose hook today in untieing a knot in the garden that my kid had made. But i then noticied that the hook tool opens up further than the normal 90degree fully open position. It goes to 90deg as you would expect, but you can then easily open it to around 135 degrees. Can anyone confirm if this is normal for the hook tool ?

Thanks

Si

Does the same on my Cybertool 41, just checked. I too looked at many multi layer SAKs as I wanted one with every tool I wanted and no redundant tools, or ones I wouldn't use like a fish scaler and pharmaceutical spatula.

I also looked at the Cybertool lite, but as I usually carry a dedicated, and much more powerful and versatile light, I went with the 41 for the wood and metal saws. The swisschamp, XLT, and XAVT just had too many tools I wouldn't use, or redundant tools, my 41 has every one I would want without any excess.

I was tempted with the CT41 but decided i really need the LED and also it seems to be hard to find the CT41 for sale here in the UK. I think some places had it, but for quite a high price. I think maybe CT41 is discontinued ?

I have to say again after owning a cheap SAK copy in the 80s/90s that the quality difference with a real Vic is amazing.

So much so that im tempted to start collecting a few now. Are Wenger pretty much the same in quality compared to Vics ?

From what I've read, and start here too http://www.sakwiki.com/ they started as two independant companies, each alternating to supply the swiss army, much later Victorinox bought out Wenger, but they keep they're own product lines and identities. Best I can tell, people are equally happy with both.

Heh, I'm actually poking around at a Bantam or a Compact with a custom swap of the hook and bottle opener with a reamer and phillips.

I wear my 41 on a pouch on my belt at work. When I'm not at work I usually don't carry unless I anticipate a need, hence the 'dissappears in pocket' size search.

I believe the 41 has been discontinued for this year. Got mine from amazon. Who knows if they will make a new model to replace it. Of course there are people and shops who will custom build a knife for you.

It's normal. I have multiple SAKs with the hook (Compact, Climber, Explorer, Fieldmaster, SwissChamp, Cybertool Lite, SwissChamp XLT); they're all the same.

Like the others, I too can confirm that it's normal. :-)

In my opinion, the Wenger SAKs are almost the same quality. The only thing that I notice on my Wenger SAKs is that the back springs are a bit weaker than on the Victorinox SAKs, but I never had a Wenger SAK broken. Wenger has nice models and uses different handle styles, with improved ergonomics. Some of their smaller SAKs have a locking main blade and the large screw driver locks in place when you press on it (not sure if that's on all models though).
