Hi guys.
I have a One Handed Trekker that I recently got a little sand in. I blasted it out with air, washed it in soapy water and re-oiled it. Now it is no longer one handed, because the mechanism is so stiff. I can't hear any sand grinding in there. I've tried oiling it again, opening and closing it repeatedly. No joy. The saw is also very stiff. All the other tools seem to move fine.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

i would have said re-oil it, but you already did that.

i always wash my Vic out and never oil it and no issues:confused:

that's weird on yours though...someone who knows more will be along shortly i'm sure.

I'm sure you could send it in for repair or replacement - Victorinox is pretty good about standing behind their stuff.

I would remove all the oil by sloshing it about in a bath of solvent (I use naptha), opening/closing the blades and sloshing some more. One thoroughly cleaned, try it and/or re-oil if you prefer.

If that doesn't work, you can try inserting a flathead screwdriver between the liners of the blade and gently push them apart, hold it under running water for about a minute and then just remove the screwdriver.

Or try opening partially during sloshing, it might help getting rid of some of the grits. I did have this when removing the serration using file, the fine dust got into the blade pivot, liner, backspring, etc. despite my careful avoiding it.

Sloshing in hot water with soap and opening / closing in the water helps. Now it works ok.

Since you said you washed it in soapy water, I'm guessing you opened and closed the bladed several times underwater and no go? I use a brush under hot soapy water, then open and close several times, let dry and use a little moly paste...just a tiny dab work it into the joint and wipe of the excess. I bought several used Vic Gaks , some of which would hardly open, they were pretty rough and abused...almost like new after this treatment.I never oil my saks, I find the moly attracts alot less grit, and last much longer.

Cool, thanks guys. I did try using a toothbrush and soap when I was cleaning and I did open and close it repeatedly. But there's no harm in trying again.
I'll give all your ideas a try and let you know if any of them worked (Here's hoping).
