1. About how much does it weigh? (can't seem to find this info anywhere)

2. Can the main blade really be opened with one hand without too much trouble?

3. Is this the same knife that has recently become standard issue for the German army?

Dont know about two of your questions but it can be opened with one hand with no trouble at all. Do not expect to flip it open but it is easily opened.

1.) not sure
2.) yes
3.) basically. The German army version has olive drab scales with the Bundeswehr logo and no toothpick or tweezers....

You can even remove the serrations if you want.

:)

I carry mine in a pouch. It is fairly heavy for pocket IMO. And I don't find the opening EASY. Acceptable, but not EASY.

However, I would NOT be without one. Just today on my walk, I came across a mud puddle. Simple matter to cut off a handful of willow branches and toss em on the mud and cross cleanly.

And the SAW is unbelievable. Use it all the time in the yard. I also have a lanyard on it.

It is light enough to carry in one's pocket easily enough. Jeans' front pocket, cargo pocket of your coat, belt pouch - no problem. Wouldn't necessarily carry it when wearing a suit, sweatpants or similar light clothes, or wear it on a neck cord.

It's quite unobtrusive though, so no big worries about wearing out the lining of your pockets.

The main blade opens with no hassle at all, lockup is pretty good.

I can't say anything to #3.

A very nice package, got mine pretty cheap - and lost it about a week later. Still pisses me off just thinking about it.

I think it would be perfect if it had an inline phil driver instead of the T-bar configuration.

It opens easily with one hand. It is like a standard slipjoint, but with an added lock, so the blade is not 'free' while you open it. In other words, you have to push through the whole travel. One you lube it and open and close it a bunch, it will get quite smooth though.

I removed the serrations and changed mine to red scales to make it more sheeple friendly.

I find it actually opens easier with my left hand than my right, but that's just me.

Lavan, how did you get rid of the serrations on yours? Did you just sharpen them off?

It's a decent SAK in my opinion. As has already been said, don't expect to flip it open. It's still a slipjoint folder despite the liner and as such there will be some up/down play. The liner is there "just in case" but it doesn't engage the tang securely. The odd thing is that the liner seems to be designed for left hand use. Other than that, it's fairly easy to open with one hand. By the way, I had to go through a few samples to select one that suited me as a handful of them had alot of side wobble. Luckily, the retailer I bought it from had them in boxes and not the clamshell packs.

Chris, I just pulled the blade lengthwise along a file until the serrations were ...j u s t....barely visible. Then just sharpened it. I did one thing I would change, though. I sharpened with a regular wedge grind. I think if I were doing it again, I would retain the chisel grind just because it sliced so neat.

Cosmic, I just use my index finger while holding the knife in ...using... position. Instead of turning the knife over like all other liner locks, I just push it off with finger and ease it down closed. Otherwise it is sort of awkward as when it's upside down, you are pulling the liner instead of pushing it.

Too bad for the German soldiers, the toothpick and tweezers are so handy!

Thanks.

I sure find it strange that the V'nox website doesn't list weight as part of the specification for any of their knives.

Why did you remove the serrations?

Just got mine yesterday. I cut some willow branches off to test/ clean the saw and then had difficulty opening the serrated blade one handed. This was some what helped with cleaning/lubricating spray.

Compared to my sak huntsman, the tools all seam much sturdier except for the same tin opener, tweezers & tooth pick. The awl is the same size but is held in place much firmer.
The weight is less than a Leatherman sideclip, and the knife goes in the brown leather leatherman wave case but I have carried in my left pocket hanging from the Victorinox belt clip on, key ring holder with attachment.
