Anyone besides me wish the One Hand Trekker has a slipjoint versus a lock, a spear point versus that.. and a non serrated blade? I really feel like it shouldn't have a lock, or at least a slipjoint option
Any thoughts?

I'm okay with the lock. I could take it or leave it, but I agree with the rest. Non-serrated, V-edge spear point is perfect. I'm on my second one, and like my first (which I gave away) it is slowly becoming a non-serrated blade, at which point it will be a V-edge.

I wish the tip was a bit more pointy

With a diamond file, it wouldn't take too much work to make the tip of the blade more pointed. I've used diamond files to modify SAK tools before, including the blades. You could also use sandpaper or a coarse stone. It's a similar process to how people modify Moras to have a flat spot on the spine for striking a ferro rod. You would just file the end of the spine at the tip, or run it across an abrasive surface until the tip is angled the way you want it.

The Adventurer is the Trekker but without the wood saw. The Trekker with plain edge, no OH, is also available.

If you don't like the liner lock, it should be possible to find older models (maybe not the Trekker) with the now, discontinued, slide-lock.

Oops. Thanks for catching that.

I did an article way back in 2001 when they first came out. Took it with me on a Training mission to Afghanistan in April/May 2002. Had to cut some WD-1 Comms Wire and kind of messed up the forward serrations which I did not really like anyway. Took my EZE-LAP diamond hone and sharpened the serrations off. Still carrying it daily, except a lot of the blade has been sharpened off, but I have a standby one in my desk drawer. John

I love the One Handed Trekker. A few years ago my family took a vacation to the mountains. We stopped at Smoky Mountain Knife Works. It was amazing. I decided to get a knife. After going through all of the store, I decided on a SAK. I picked out the OHT. Its been a great knife. I like the half serrated blade. The saw cuts everything. One time me a dad was working on a deer stand years ago and we had a piece of wood that was to long. He wanted to go back to the barn and get a saw. I pulled out my OHT and cut through the wood. It holds a special place because I bought it brand new on that vacation. Most of my SAK knives have been bought from eBay or yard sales. I carried it today I finally got around to installing the windshield wipers on the car. I cut though the packaging with no problem. I found a video on how to sharpen them that works great. Here it is:

So my three comparison points are, having handled an OHT (gave it to a friend), owning a Rucksack (slidelock) and a Spyderco UKPK drop point.

I think the OHT is a good design to meet it's requirements. I think a true spearpoint like the Rucksak has (or near enough) really does need a lock, its too easy to snag a sharper tip on something and close the blade. A one handed slipjoint is useful, but I think needs to have a couple more design features to assist with that risk, and I think that all the spydie slipits do that pretty well. At the end of the day the OHT is not a specialist tool, it's a generalist that needs to be pretty okay at a lot of different things, and I think it holds that balance well. As for the serrated tip, most people do fine work near the handle, not out at the tip, to avoid accidental prying forces, so it makes sense to me. I'm not a serration fan, but I'd rather those than many other formats. According to SAKwiki, they were available in plain edge from 08 on, so look for model 54875.

Also, keeping in mind the price point it sits at, removing the lock is possible (it is actually a slipjoint with a safety, the liner doesn't contact the tang) But that means changing the rest of the geometry, and I'm not sure if that would mess with the backside layers. That said, if you wanted to do that mod, it's one of the easier layer mods that I can think of.

They make or made plain edge versions of the OHT, I have two of them and one or two of the regular serrated versions.
The serrated blades are good and useful but I prefer the plain edge.

As for the lock, I prefer the older slide lock and the pointier blade that accompanied it, but I don’t mind the liner lock too much either.
