i recently bought a trekker from amazon brand new. Got it today and i noticed that when i open and lock the main blade that there is a little blade play forward and backward. Side to side is fine. the lock doesnt quite touch the blade when it locks so there is movement. has anyone else had this problem with there trekker or is it normal..

Out of three OHT's I've handled, two had this problem. Nothing major, but it is annoying. One of the reasons why I dislike the linerlock SAK models.

My 2009 Vic Soldier has some up and down blade play as well. I keep it in my car as my emergency knife.

I am pretty sure it is designed that way, since the portion of the blade in contact with the lock face isn't angled but flat, I don't see how it could lock without it as a normal liner lock does.

I always thought that Victorinox uses the liner lock as a back up to the backspring to hold the blade open, not as the primary means. So I don't consider it play per se, but a different way to use a liner lock.
What I find more unusual is the lock is a lefty, it befuddles me but works none the less.

I'm an avid SAK collector, and have dozens of locking Victorinox knives. Blade play seems to be the norm rather than the exception, I only have a couple that exhibit no blade play.

I agree with what BJE said, the locks on SAKs are designed as an addition to the spring, they aren't proper locking knives.

I haven't had any issues with the lock disengaging or anything like that, though.

The so called blade play is not that bad. been using it for two days now, and it hasnt done anything to the performance of the knife. thanx for the replies guys:)
