Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the Victorinox Pioneer and the Victorinox Soldier?

The main difference is that the Pioneer has the "key ring" and the Soldier doesn't. The emblems are different, Pioneer has the standard Victorinox shield and cross, the Soldier has the military shied and cross. The Pioneer also has a place for engraving on the scale opposite the one with the shield.

The old Pioneer had red handles and a key ring. The soldier plain aluminum handles and no key ring. The new Pioneer has the plain aluminum handles and the key ring.

I believe in the older Pioneers the screwdriver and can opener blades had a more polished finish than the Soldier (I preffer a rougher finish on the screwdriver since I feel it holds better on a worn screw), also no year marking on the main blade.

These were basicaly simple cosmetic diferences, I don´t know if they occur in the new silver alox Pioneers.

I also believe that the Soldier was available with or without the ring, I have a Soldier with ring.

I believe that theres an entire line of alox handled SAKs called "Pioneers". I have a "Farmer" which is exactly like the soldier, but with a different emblem on the front, keyring, sawblade, and a spot on the back for engraving.

I prefer the Soldier and it's one of my EDCs.

If you are thinking of buying a Soldier/Pioneer, think no more. They are great, just go get one.
