This is a review of a custom made and installed Belt / Pocket clip installed on a silver Victorinox Farmer with silver Alox scales.

This work was done by Bill Evans [scibeer at comcast.net] and I even purchased the knife through him. The knife was 15 dollars (VERY good price) and the modification and belt clip was 30 dollars. I could have sent him my knife - but I simply bought the knife from him because it was such a good price.

Communication:

I must have e-mailed Bill over a dozen times with various questions. He answered them all promptly and patiently and explained things well and in detail.

Purchase:

I sent him paypal on Friday of last week. He confirmed that he got the money and let me know he would get on it.

Timing:

I paid him on Friday - he was done on Sunday!!! Three day turnaround. He shipped it on Monday and I had it on Thursday. Less than a week turn around from payment to being in hand! WOW!

Packaging:

Came in a USPS Priority mail box wrapped in bubble wrap. Very safe - even if it did rattle around. There was an addition that I did not pay for nor knew about. A pocket LED light that is VERY bright and very nice. Cool addition.

The thing that struck me immediately was that Bill flipped the scales. This makes sense when you see how the clip is attached. You can see in the picture above that the modified knife is on the left.

The Belt Clip and Modification:

The belt clip is top notch, thick, well installed (two torx screws), well polished, and springy. The way it installed allows for easy use of the knife and makes the Farmer a little thicker and (for me) more comfortable to use.

The belt clip looked a little crooked when I first bought it and a set of calipers confirmed its crookedness. I loosened the Torx screws a bit and moved the belt clip and it straightened right up. Could have easily been bumped in shipping. It looks great now.

Brass Retention Pins:

These brass retention pins were installed with a hammer and had a very rustic look. They looked 'hammered' as a finish. I decided to mask off the pins and use 600 grit sandpaper to clean them up a bit. I noticed that one pin had a circle dimple on it from what looked to be a nail set. It could not be cleaned up with the sandpaper. Not a huge deal - but a detail I would have liked to been cleaned up.

Another one of the pins seemed to be ill fitted to the recessed portion drilled out of the scales. It also had a little hammer damage on the scales around the pin:

Again - no huge problem - and with it hidden by the pocket clip - I am glad this happened on the back.

General Review:

I would give the pocket clip and installation a 10 out of 10. I am VERY impressed with the clip itself. The price point was just right and makes my knife an instant EDC.

I would give the pin replacement an 8 of 10. A few small details would have made this a perfect purchase.

I will certainly contact Bill again for my SAK's.

i keep meaning to drop by his house and have him add one of those clips to my farmer... he lives a few minutes away from me...:D

Nice review man. Thanks for the heads up, I have wanted to put a clip on my blue alox for awhile. I just need to find another one first, so I can still have one as it came from the factory. I will definately use him for the mod.

Old post but does anyone have Bill's updated contact? I want a SAK Cadet with a clip...

The clip is slightly different, but I did the same mod to an Alox Pioneer. I don't remember flipping the scales though.
