I am wondering if anyone uses one of the Victorinox pocketknife clip pouches. I have a Mountaineer on order and I am wondering if it would get the thumbs up or down to use with one of the clip pouches. I was not planning on clipping it to my belt, but rather clip it on the inside of my pocket like you would a normal folder w/ clip. Does anyone do this normally, does it work well?

I'd prefer not to carry on my belt, loose in my pocket, or add a clip onto the actual handles itself. Essentially I want it to have a holster of some sort that I can clip on the inside of my pocket like a regular folder, but the holster would hold the Mountaineer and still be easy to sheath and unsheathe it. Any suggestions?

I have one by Leatherman for my juice. I think it may be a little thick for pocket carry, but at the price it's worth a try. You may want to consider a custom leather one by Lifter or Gary Graley.

I have had one of the VIC clip sheaths for two layer and one for four layer knives. Even for the two layer (I carry the Soldier in one when I am at home b/c it keeps falling out of my pocket but it is clipped to my waistband) it is a little thick to carry clipped inside the pocket. Maybe if you cut off the top flap it would thin out a little. It's hard to unsnap without taking the sheath out of your pocket in any case. I can't think of any pocket sheaths that would work for a SAK as thick as the Mountaineer.
Another option would be to attach a lanyard to the knife, tie it to your belt or belt loop and adjust the length so the knife just "hangs" in your pocket which will take the weight off of your pocket. Use a clip to be able to easily release it from the knife.

You could always just add a clip to the Victorinox. It's pretty easy to add to the ones with the plastic scales. Just drill a couple of holes and screw it in.

I'd like to see some pics of that, I gotta wonder how strong the plastic is, and would it hold up to the constant stress from the clips tension, and if not is there room under the scales for nuts, or is there enough liner to drill through and tap?

Edit: The scales usually have space underneath (semi-hollow), but probably not enough for a nut. The liners are very thin, so I don't think that's an easy option either.(end edit)

I also don't think the plastic would hold up to repeated pocket clippings. In fact most scales for SAKs are hollow, which gives the screws less purchase.

The solution would be to remove the scale, tap the holes, and fill the holes and hollows of the scale with a good epoxy. Attach the clip and screws and press the scale back on tight (may need to clamp lightly). Just be sure to use enough epoxy for the scale to stick to the liner and be very careful not to get epoxy in the channels for the tweezers or anywhere else it doesn't belong.

When the epoxy cures, the screws should have a very tough time loosening.. of course this is extremely permanent.

There are other ways, I suppose (Including making your own scales).. SOSAK would be a good place to investigate.

I've added clips to a couple of SAKs by just screwing into the scales and it's worked fairly well. My One handed Trekker has had a clip for a couple of years now and it's going strong. My wife's Outrider is one layer thicker and the clip screws are starting to strip a bit, I think due to the extra weight of the knife... one of the smaller 84 or 91mm models would probably do very well with a clip. I've heard that some use epoxy on the screws, which can lessen the potential for the screws stripping...
