Victorinox removes Cross?

I read a couple of articles online regarding this. I was wondering if anyone knew if there was any truth to this. If you Google "Victorinox removes Cross," you will see several articles. Thoughts?

I actually hope this is not going to happen, the cross is just part of a true SAK imo. It would look so plain and almost like a knock-off without it.

Just me .02 though, if they think its a good choice that's cool, I'll still buy their knives with or without it.

Quick edit: the only articles I saw are from 2011 and they were apparently due to shipping in Islamic countries. most articles I saw in that search were from anti-islamic blogs and gear forums so I don't think we have to worry much, no actual news sites showed up at least in the immediate results.

Given that a white cross on a red background is the national flag of Switzerland, I can't imagine Vic would remove that symbol from their knives.

And also an implement itself. As a vampire repellent, it is only 86% effective, but certainly better than nothing.

Fortunately the 14% it doesn't work on tend to wear skinny jeans, glitter, makeup and have low life expectancy. And tend to not be able to do anything over a slow power walk, something about the skinny jeans restrict their movement which makes them easy prey.

Well either way I don't see the Victorinox symbol leaving anytime soon, thats like them ditching the color red for their knives or owning a Ferrari that is not Ferrarir Red it's just not right. And honestly if they remove that symbol their knives will just look like knock off's of their own brand in my opinion, it's part of their image.

It will never happen...all I saw were old articles and it was being removed for the Saudi Arabian/ middle eastern market.

The shield and cross is so much a part of the brand (and not just for knives) that they are not likely to change, but they have always been willing to provide graphics for specialty markets:

You have nothing to worry about. I doubt that they would change the symbol that is their company. It's the first thing most look for when getting a used one. It's the biggest tell tale sign of a real one. They update it all the time for a change in scenery but that's all they'll do. I'm sure of that. I'd be shocked if they ever deleted the cross.

I wish there was a Soviet version with a hammer and sickle instead of the cross. No real reason I just think it would be neat if that was something that actually existed way back when.

But yeah I can't see them getting rid of the cross except maybe special versions for a country that might object.

Just get yourself a regular Victorinox and rub at it with your thumb until the painted on cross wears off.
I'm pretty sure only the Econo versions are painted on. I have a couple I got used that have a worn off cross but you can still see an indent where the paint was. The rest are just a very thin piece of metal inlaid in the cellidor scales.

There are two regular Victorinox models without the Swiss cross. One is a blue Classic with a Star of David. The other is a green Classic with a shamrock. These are actual inlaid symbols, not graphics added after manufacture.

There are lots of Victorinox advertising knives with no cross.

If marketing thinks it clashes or distracts, they specify no Victorinox logo. The customer is always right.

German army knives have the Federal eagle.

This Dutch army knife has the rampant lion from the Netherlands coat of arms with an eagle and an anchor. Maybe it's a Dutch navy knife.

The Soldier had the Swiss national coat of arms.

The Pioneer has Victorinox's corporate logo.

It's all marketing and branding.
