I guess this is the place for SAK questions, right?

I had one of those 'moments' in my favourite camp store recently. I just 'popped in' to have a 'quick look around' and had to stop by at the gadget cabinet as my wife calls it... and there she was.... whammo!

So now the very sexy Rescue Tool is on my Crimbo list (the only thing on the list actually) but I do have a question for ya:

Is the saw on it intended purely for window screens or can it handle your average bonfire log as well?

I rilly like this yellow fellow but I may just have to take the responsible route and get a Trekker if the saw doesn't do the biz on wood.

Thanks!

Hey, thanks for the link - that's a good review!

I can see I might have to rethink my Santa wish list. Its a shame, cos I like the other features on the knife, but a wood saw would be a lot more useful to me in the long run than a glass one.

Thanks bud!

Its a shame really, as I dig the other features.... but the Rescue Tool is obviously a very focused product. Not a bad one to own though, all things being equal.

And I do have a saw on my Leatherman and my Swiss Champ already...

Hmmmmm........

I hear ya...

I'm actually chasing the German army version of the OH Trekker right now. Its too cool to pass up.

But the Rescue Tool is still on my list. The SAKs are pretty reasonable compared to most of the knives I buy, so I see them as light relief!

i have a rescue-in fact i have 2

i have stated before that while
i love SAKs and
LOVE stay glow and
LOVE one hand opening and
i like the unique belt red case and the SAK mini lanyard whcih come on the Rescue

this knife is very focused and purpose specific-i dont htink its one id take edc, camping or 'just because'

imho the saw is abysmal for wood, especially compared the normal SAK wood saw-its designed to cut safety glass -and if you watch the demo on the sak site-none too quickly either-and its clear gloves are in order when breaking glass with it or cutting glass-

it is pretty large and hefty too-but is unique and Stay Glo

i keep mine in the car-its as much practical, as it gives 'joy of ownership'

-but frankly-an escape hammer with built in blade is probably better if you are hurt and barely able to move a shoulder to break glass-

im hoping that the replaceable saw and breaker will eventually have other optional implements which one can use-

i have the GAK OHT and its a great knife too-no toothpick or tweezer like its SAK counterpart teh OHT trekker -but nice-

like everyone else here however, add to the collection, i do-this one's great for the car

if nothing else youll have sty glo scales to put on another OHT version if you so choose

Try the one hand fireman, its almost the same as the rescue tool but no window breaker, wood saw instead of disk saw and corkscrew instead of philips.

I have a Rescue tool and keep it in my 4X4 Pickup. It is a very purpose driven tool but I like it. I look at it about 1 time each week but have not had to use it. I stated on another post that I hope I never have to use it, but it is there just incase. I would get one and keep in my auto if you don't have one.
