I was looking into picking up a SAK. I figure that in addition to being useful, it will also be extremely non-threating in a sheeple surrounded environment. I used to have a Hiker model that I liked, but I feel that the in-line phillips like the one on the Explorer probably works better than the one on the back of the knife. In fact, the Explorer is almost perfect, except that I refuse to buy a knife that has a magnifying glass in it.

So my question is this. What other similarly sized and equipped models have the in-line phillips screwdriver? I know that the Champs, do but they're way too massive.

It's probably smaller than what you had in mind, but the new Victorinox Rambler has a combination caplifter/philips head screwdriver. Just a thought.

I think that all of the inline phillips screwdrivers have a magnifying glass oppposite of them.

Take a look at the brand new line of SAKs called CyberTool. Besides having 3 inline philips drivers they also have a flat and 3 torx drivers and a hex key. There is no magnifying glass!

I've had an Explorer for quite some time and it has served me great. I can't understand your beef with the magnifying glass. I haven't gone hiking or wilderness exploring for quite some time, but having that little magnifying glass on the knife sure doesn't hurt. They put it in the Explorer for a reason after all (start a fire easier), and it sure does make the knife unique.

But hey, if you are looking for a knife that serves you other purposes, you can't go wrong with Victorinox's line. Check out their ample catalog at www.swissarmy.com for detailed descriptions with pictures. I'm sure you will pick the knife that suits you best in no time.

Best of luck,

Maybe having the magnifying glass in there wouldn't be so bad, but it just seems rediculous to put one in a knife.

I used to think the magnifying glass on my old Explorer was useless. I never used the darn thing.

Then I read on a preparedness website that they're very useful if you must wear glasses, you're camping or hiking or backpacking, and you break them or lose them. In a do-or-die scenario, you could use the magnifier as a monocle and find your way. Awkward, but it could save your bacon.

As I'm very nearsighted, that advice gave me pause for thought. That's my two cents on magnifiers in Swiss Army knives.

I forgot to add that I carry a Swiss Army knife, a Craftsman, every day. Very handy in a business office, where I couldn't necessarily whip out my Leatherman without raising eyebrows.

A Swiss Army knife is useful, looks "friendly," and everyone immediately recognizes it as a helpful tool rather than as a "threatening looking" weapon.

You can also use the magnifying glass to start a fire if it's sunny outside.

cakija,

I'm curious, why do you prefer the CyberTool 29 over both the CyberTool 34 and the CyberTool 41? That version has the fewest tools.
