I have read a lot of articles on the comparison of these two knives and have even called and talk to a store owner that had both knives. He handled and give me feedback on them........what he said was there is some differences one is that the Vic is slightly heavier and he said seamed more solid 2.8 oz on Vic while SI was 2.4 oz. He didn't really say if the fit and finish was better or worse on either. It seems that most people say theres not that much difference between them, while some disagree with that statement. I would like to have anyone who has both to post some macro shots of them side by side and tell us what there preference is between them.

Fit & Finish
Weight
Strength of Slip joint
Construction difference
Any other comparison points

I have handled both but I chose the wenger over the vic because of the bail. That is the only function difference that I could see. The fit and finish on both are excellent. IIRC the awls have a different shape. The awl on the vic. Is more angled at the tip and blends smoother at the base where as the S.I. Ends more suddenly. I have a vic farmer with the same awl as the soldier and I will say that both styles perform equally well. I hope this helps.

Hi blade12 -

I do not have any Wenger knives, but I believe that Victorinox bought out Wenger and that they are all made by Victorinox now.

My wife recently gave me a slippie like the one in your first pic with the US stamp on it.

I believe that to be USGI and made by Ontario. My father gave me one of those a long while back and assume he was issued that in the Navy...

Hi oguruma -

I believe that there were older ones like yours that were service issue, and then ones similar to mine that were later production -

The one I have has a Camillus tang stamp and 1988 under the Camillus text.

I just got it out and man, it is a real nail-breaker!

It has a can-opener, a screwdriver/bottle opener, a spear point blade and an awl.

It's a nice knife, and had belonged to my wife's father who has since passed away.

Another one that I will never part with.

I have one of those US army knives too (Camillus 1991). It came out of an ejection seat survival kit that my step dad gave me. Nail breaker for sure. I had to soak it in gasoline for two days to get it open, then clamp all the tools in a vice and loosen them up a bit. I'm glad I didn't have to use it in an emergency, like punching out behind enemy lines. Worst fit and finish I've ever seen. A real POS IMO. But I still like it and I'm keeping it forever.

The Wenger and the Vic are pretty much the same as each other. Lightyears better than that Camillus. The only problem I had with the Wenger is that the bail gets in the way of the blade closing sometimes, so I took it off. Functionally I would say they both work and feel the same.

Hi blade12 -

This topic might garner more attention for you in the Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades forum - there are a lot of people there that will have experience with both Vic and Wenger.
