I have a Victorinox Cadet in alox and I was wondering if it would be possible to clean the knife under the sink or in some water. And if I do so, will I be facing some corrosion? How exactly corrosion resistant is victorinox steel?
Thanks!
Austin

I use soap and hot water on victorinox all the time. Add a little grease after and even the oldest, beat uP knives will snap like new. Sak's are the best value in the knife world. Check Out old style alox. It is the best.

I want to say that the instructions that come with Victorinox knives (that don't contain electronics) all state to do exactly that - wash the knife with soap/water and rinse until clean and dry thoroughly.

Victorinox steel is extremely rust resistant. Soap and water is not gonna hurt it at all.

What all of them said. The steel Victorinox uses is extremely corrosion resistant.
If it were I, after I'd washed it with soap and water I'd hit it with the blow drier, then give it a drop of oil.

Do you think it would be safe to come in contact with fresh water such as river or creek water? How about salt water?

I don't think fresh water would be a problem, as long as you dried it off
I would rinse off salt water ASAP, but as long as you do I don't think it would be a problem

What he said.

People don't understand that you can wash ANY steel in water as long as you DRY it thoroughly when you're done! Water is not some kind of magic liquid that eats steel on contact.

I once put a Wenger in a salt water solution for more than a week and only the aluminum handle showed corrosion. I took it out, and wrapped the blade in a salt-water soaked rag. No corrosion. I don't expect Victorinox is any different. I've never seen anything close to corrosion on and SAK I've had.

For fun I'll repeat the test with an old Tinker and report back.

What he said ^. I have many SAK's. One I have had for over 22 years. Its been wet multiple times, I haven't always dried it off and it has no noticeable corrosion on it. Its a Vic, use it, you don't have to baby it, enjoy your new knife.

Oh and Welcome to the Forum!!!!!!!!!!!!

I clean all of my knives (stainless, carbon, whatever) by running them under boiling hot tap water to flush the gunk out. Works like a charm and, so long as I dry them off, I never worry about corrosion. A little goo-gone for the stubborn gunk and they're good to go.

I hope that was an exaggeration otherwise I'd suggest checking out your hot water heater!
