Victorinox Swisscard Mini-Review
I'm guessing that all of us have probably owned a Victorinox Swisscard at one point, or at least thought of it. It's a neat little gadget that promises the utility of a Swiss Army knife in the size of a credit card. Standard versions come with a small blade/letter opener, nail file with a flathead screwdriver tip, pen, pin, ruler, scissors, toothpick, and tweezers. The Swisscard Lite version adds a magnifying glass, a multi-tipped screwdriver, and a tiny flashlight. The MSRP on the Swisscard is about $36 and $46 for the Swisscard Lite. Our favorite online retailers sell them for somewhere between $25 and $35. I've seen them in black, blue, pink, and red.
It's a neat idea, but I like carrying a Swiss Army Knife better. The Swisscard is a little too thick to fit into the credit card slot of a wallet, so I always ended up carrying it in my pocket anyway. While all the tools work, they all work as well or better when built into a knife handle. The blade, for example, is much larger, sturdier, and more useful, and the scissors are easier to use with the additional grip of a knife handle.
