I am between these two models for my next purchase: SwissChamp & WorkChamp

I believe Bladeforums is the place where I can expect to get some knowledge to make the right decision.

Could people please help me with my purchase?

I am confused as the swisschamp has a few more tools, whereas the workchamp has the size advantage which I like.
The workchamp feels more comfortable in hand and and has a locking main blade.
The swisschamp has additional functions over the workchamp like the magnifying glass, the parcel hook(yes I like it), the chisel, extra small blade etc.

Also, is there any difference between the metal file in these two models apart from the size?

So, I am torn in between these thoughts and would really appreciate some help.

Thanks.

For many years a Swisschamp was my only multi-tool, during which time I used every implement on it except for the back spring mounted small screwdriver. The neighborhood kids used to call me Knifeguy. I'd like to offer an opinion on the Workchamp but never owned one, in fact never even saw one except in pictures. However, I do have a 111mm OH Trekker, which is one of my all time favorites. It's good in the hand, packs a terrific saw for its size and the blade is great for cutting brush and other woody stuff. It's my go-to SAK for outdoor uses.

If you lead a mostly urban lifestyle, I would opt for the S'champ. The Workchamp seems much a handful to me, but I never had a problem managing with the Swisschamp, so I guess you could get used to it.

i think the workchamp would be a safer and easier tool to use too.

yes indeed!
more tools only means more confusion when it comes to model of choice.
but as you have stated weight and comfort issues.
i am certain that you would soon fine the wisdom to go minimalist
for a strictly edc role.

Today I got around to checking out the specs for the Workchamp and must say that if you are willing to pack something in this weight category, you would be better off with a Swisstool Spirit. For a difference of .2 oz., you get a much more capable multi-tool, especially in the pliers department plus locking blades and implements, although admittedly the scissors are a bit anemic compared to the either of the 'champs. If you need toothpick, tweezers and nail file, slip a Classic in your pocket and you're covered. It depends on what tradeoffs you are willing to make.

I don't have the Swisschamp but I have the Workchamp and I love it. I don't mind the size at all plus the locking blade is great! One of the reasons I chose that instead of the Swisschamp.

great first post and reply!
welcome mrynnr
unfortunately for some in this world,
there are places where locking blades are an issue.
but i certainly agree that it is one very helpful feature to have!
maybe they could have it featured on a saw someday....

Thanks everyone,
I made up my mind and got myself the WorkChamp.. Absolutely loving it..

The size is good, grip is comfortable, and the lock blade is an added advantage..

I am about to order myself a Hercules, but my father and I both have SwissChamps and they have given us great service. I think a SwissChamp is a great knife when used in conjunction with a locking-blade folder, but for safety and general utility, I only use non-locking blades for very light work. If you are only going to carry one knife, the WorkChamp gets the nod in my book, but if you normally carry a locking folder in the pocket and are looking for more utility in a belt knife, I would go with the SwissChamp.

I could not decide after reading this thread.

So Work Champ for me, and Swiss Champ for the 12 yo grandson. Problem solved. I opted to get sheaths for both as they are both pretty large. I could see pocket carry for both of them, but in some cases I would prefer them on the belt.

Do you want something intended to be used more as a knife with convenient tools? Or a multitool with a convenient knife? That's pretty much what it comes down to.
