Hey all. I've been searching around in this part of the forum and haven't found a review of the victorinox swiss tool. Can anybody who owns one do a review on it? I'd like to know how long the blades stay sharp, how sharp they are out of the box and how the tools are along with whatever else you can add in. Thanks in advance. I just had to retire my bucktool, which I love.

I've got one, it's the best mutitool there is. I also have 2 Gerbers, 1 SOG and a Leatherman. The Swisstool is by far the best quailty and function wise. BUY ONE!!!!

Have you ever slipped on a nut and stripped the pliers teeth? Or dented the wire cutters cutting something hard? How do the screw drivers hold up? Knives worn out of chipped? Anything you dont like?

I've had all the better quality tools (and not so quality) at one time or another. Each brand brings to the table a strong feature. Meaning each tool has good features as well as bad. ex: (for me) Leatherman has the best plier jaws but Gerber's jaws open wider but the tips are more blunt.(get it?) I think anyone that uses a multi probably feels the same way.

Up until my Swisstool Sprit, I would have had to say that Leatherman was the best all around tool. Now, I say Swisstool Sprit is hands down the best all around multi-tool I've ever had.

To answer your questions, 1- I've used my jaws pretty hard on nuts, round stock (small pipe nipples, etc.) with no damage. I would not say I was extremly hard on them though.
2- I've not dented these cutters yet, but I don't cut real hard stuff with them either. I have dented the larger Swisstool's cutter though.
3-The screwdrivers (esp. phillips) have held up well and see a lot of use. Other brands, except very cheap ones, have held up just as well.
4- The knife blade doesn't see much action as I carry a folder (or two:D ) along with this tool. The blade has opened some cardboard boxes (like a hot water heater comes in) and had done a fine job. I've carried this tool almost two years and that is a testiment to this product. (meaning I've never carried any one thing this long and don't plan on changing to anything else).

5- there's nothing I really don't like. Everything seems to work fine. The wire cutters could be a little longer and the file works about the same on both sides.(most have a "wood" side and a "metal" side). That's all I can think of at this time.

Tools I'm compairing it to. Leatherman: Supertool, Supertool 200, Old style Wave, original Leatherman, Blast x 3 (liked that one), PSTII. Gerber: Old style pinch your fingers tool non locking blades (600?), newer one with locking blades(600?), Deisel, the W-mart closeout special (version of 600). Kershaw with the vise grip jaws. Klein's. Swisstool, the large one. SOG powerpliers, Paratool. There's more but I'm an old man and can't think of the rest.

Hope this helps you somehow.

Well, id use my tool for and or on:

- My Motorcycle for electrical, turning bolts, screws and so on.
- My bicycle for undoing the master link, cutting brake cables (i don't run brakes but my brother does)
- Fishing, to cut line, remove hard hooks, turn screws
- Around the yard turning bolts, twisting stuff with the pliers, cutting stuff with the knives

Along with whatever else happens to pop up. I wrench pretty hard on nuts sometimes and things that went wrong with my leatherman supertool were: i was trying to pick a piece of balsa wood out of a block i was carving and 1/2" or so of the plain edged blades tip snapped off! The wire cutters seemed soft, i dont remember what i cut with them to dent them though. I rounded off the teeth on the pliers, some of them, when i slipped on some hard nuts and bolts. I chipped the little screw driver trying to undo a screw that only that screw driver could fit. The files held up just fine as did the saw. The serrated blade chipped on something, i dont remember what. The phillips looked weird, but worked well. The tool also loosened up. This is the only tool i can compare to the swisstool as it looks as robust as the vic and its the only one ive used for years. My bucktool and gerber 800 dont seem up to par with the vic.
