Does anybody have weights for either of these? Do any of you put either of these through hard use daily? What have you done with them that you consider extreme? Have they survived? Do you think carrying both together is overkill or covering all the bases?

I have EDC'ed both Swisstools , and a Swisschamp . Both are large , but portable . Lots of guys EDC the Swisschamp , both in belt pouches or pockets , they really aren't too heavy , in relation to capabilities . The Swisstool is a big chunk of metal , I EDC'ed one until I discovered the almost as capable , lighter Spirit .

Try em , you might like them . If it were me , I'd probably wear the Swisschamp in a belt pouch , and keep the Swisstool in the pack or briefcase .

As always , YMMV !

Ive got the SwissTool, Spirit and several Champs. They way I see it, they each fill a certain niche:

Champ - When you need more than a knife but do not want the heft of a multi-tool. These include - working on kids toys, computers, eyeglasses, tinkering with electronic devices, etc. The tools are very handy but are not hard use. The Champ is also great for camping.

Spirit - when you want a multi-tool but do not need the big heavy one tugging at your belt. I tend to carry the Spirit in my pocket around the house for light to medium duty chores - fixing things, tightening things, etc.

Swisstool - when you need a heavy duty tool and may be away from your toolbox. I carry this when I know I will be pulling, prying, etc. If I am out on my property doing work on the kids playset, fences, in the sheds, etc. I want the bigger tool.

IMHO they each have their place, but like the other post said - I would keep the Champ with me and keep the multi tool in a bag or glovebox.

I also consider the SwissTool a bit heavy for EDC so I keep mine in the backpack or in the car.
One negative experience so far: I managed to bend the smallest screwdriver easily without any abuse during repairing a door handle.

I own a Swisstool and several swiss champs. I edc'd a red swiss champ for years, and it still is in good shape. I used it for all sorts of tasks, but never tried anything that I didnt think it was designed for. Such as,demolition work, construction and related "heavy-duty" tasks. It has held up for daily chores and camping, outdoors situations. It has withstood all kinds of weather. Now the swisstool is one of the toughest looking multitools I know. It is also big and heavy. So when I decide to have it with me,it usually rides in a bag or in a toolbox. I have had the Spirit X now for 7 or 8 months maybe and I like it alot. It is significantly lighter and smaller than the Swisstool, though it doesnt lose much in the translation either. Overall Id pick the Swisschamp as an edc and Id keep the Spirit closeby. I recently acquired a Stayglow-scaled Handyman, it has everything the Swisschamp has except the fish scaler, magnifying glass and philips driver. I wish the Stayglow plus scales would come back, then Id be very happy.
