The local beagle club was having a flea market today and I picked up this Victorinox Troubleshooter for $10. The main blade was horribly dull and has a scratch, but the rest of the tools look mostly unused. I ran the main blade through a Lansky angle guide and the blade is a lot better, but still needs some work. I hadnt seen this style file/saw before and I like it, however not as much as the modern saw you would find on a farmer. I had trouble finding a Vicky with this configuration, but the square scratches on the back side lead me to search for Marlboro Cigarette models, and there I found the discontinued Troubleshooter. It looks like someone thought that scratching off the Marb logo made it look better. Oh well. I think its a good find. Already not greart condition so I may throw so new scales on it soon.

Benny, do you have any interest in restoring it to its original look with Marlboro scales? If so, let me know and I’ll send you some take off scales from an Outdoorsman from the Marlboro series.View attachment 1812063
I would. I was looking for replacements and I like how these have the victorinox logo on the screwdriver side... what are you asking?

They’re yours, just PM me your mailing address and I’ll try to get them out this week. One less thing my daughters have to deal with when I’m dead🥴. Hopefully which is around 40 or so years away!!!

that would be greatly appreciated... I will add it to the pile of things my sons will have to deal with when Im dead 😂 and I will be sure to pay it forward.

A big thank you to 315 315 who mailed me the original Marlboro scales for my Troubleshooter. I didnt even pay shipping! Thanks Jim!. I figured that I would find something to put up and do the same with. So I have a set of Beretta 96 (should fit 92 series) stock grips, that I will ship off to the first person who asks for them. All you have to do is promise to do the same thing with an item of yours.

I want to fix my girl's grandpa's SAK that has gunk in it, pushing up the tools, even though I cleaned it heavily with toothbrush and dish soap. Should I use a stronger solvent? Does Victorinox handle this type of thing?

Just want to restore her g-pas old knife. Can post pics if needed!
Going to post something cool and Vic related to give away here soon, just need to decide what.

you should post some pics so we have an Idea of just how dirty it is. I have a bunch of victorinox knives and I never use anything on them other than dish soap and the hottest water I can hold my hands under. Find a way to safely open and close the tools while running them under warm water, to flush out any grit caught in the tools. Sometimes if I get electrical tape or other work related goo on it, I use a plastic bristled brush and dishsoap. A toothbrush is probably too light duty, and if you can find a brush that has bristles long enough to reach all the way to the spines. Dont use wire brush or steel wool. When it is clean, open all the tools and "pat" it dry. leave the tools open and let it dry completely. Once it is completely dry put some oil on it. I use mineral oil on my SAKs because it is food safe...

wd40 and then dish soap with a brush, repeat if necessary. Lastly, oil when dry. I recommend oiling the first few times. Then it's optional. The wd40 is only for cleaning.
