Would love to hear the opinions of all the experts here. I have always been a Vic guy, just cause thats what I first owned. But I recently bought a couple of Wenger Soldiers, and felt almost dirty for crossing brands.. haha. I was curious what everyone thought. Is Vic the more elite? I know Vic bought Wenger, just enjoy the discussion. Thanks!

I've only handled one Wenger but I own several Vics. I didn't really spend enough time with the Wenger to notice any good or bad points. I'm sure they make fine knives but for some reason I'm not really interested in them.

The quality of the ones I have is about equal. I preffer Vic over the Wenger ones. The Vic's seem to take a keener edge IMHO.

Try searching the threads. This has come up several times before. Also look on the multi-tool, multipurpose knife forum.

The usual consensus, with some dissenters, is that Victorinox is preferred.

The search function isn't working, at least not for me. When I enter something and then click enter.. it goes to a completely blank page.

Oh. Sorry about that.

I often (maybe always?) get the same thing if I try multiple words in the search. Try searching for Victorinox. Then you can search those results for Wenger. That's my work around. Maybe some one more experienced with the site has a better solution.

I prefer Vics , as do most sak fans of my aquaintance , f/f is of a higher , wegner has some cheesy accessories .

Wenger has a new Evo line, which looks pretty good. I've only handled one of them, but I like the slightly different handle. I prefer the Wenger scissors and small pliers to the Victorinox spring version.

I am asking this comparo, mainly cause the Soldier knife. I own a Wenger, and from reading the threads I have here and hearing people's preference for Victorinox I feel like I bought the lesser product.

They are virtually identical minus the bail, but still...

I belive the Wenger Standard Issue ( SI ) & the Vic Soldier to be Identical in every way as I have both. In my earlier thread I was referring to Wengers other models. So, no...your Wenger SI is as good as a Vic's!

Back in 1993 I found a Victorinox display board in a sporting goods store that was going out of business. It had a single Soldier model attached. I bought it for $5 without the box or papers. It had the hollow rivet for attaching a lanyard and a "91" stamped on the tang of the blade – signifying production in 1991. Since I had seen a few Soldiers lately with 1993 stamped on the blade and no hollow rivet, I emailed Switzerland and asked what was up! I received a nice response from a lady in marketing that stated in an effort to reduce the cost of these knives to the Swiss Army, they Swiss Army had dropped the requirement for a lanyard attachment. I told her I was coming back to Switzerland on the next plane because the training areas for the Swiss Army should be littered with lost pocket knives. She agreed.

I still have my 1991 model and won't part with it for anything. Some similar Victorinox knives have the keyring attachment, and this is better than nothing, but a good stout pull on the lanyard (like having it snag on something while exiting a Bradley or something) could pull the ring apart and you could still lose your knife.

...so if you can find a Soldier from 1991 or earlier, you have a find! The Wenger knives probably saved money somewhere else to continue to provide the "bail" on their Soldier models.
