Victorinox vs. Wenger ?

Does anyone have opinions about the quality of one of
these brands vs. the other? They seem to have similar
but slightly different configurations of SAKs, and seem to
be similarly priced. I seem to see Victorinox more often,
but is that just popularity - or a perceived superiority in
quality (or, maybe some other considerations)?

Thanks

There is an almost identical thread currently running in the Multi-Tool forum. You may want to check that one out as well. ;)

I picture in my head sometimes the last two knife nuts on earth after the big TEOTWAWKI event......slowly strangling each other to death while muttering "Victorinox" and "Wenger" over and over.

That said.....I'll take Vic's by a very thin margin.

I have knives by both and will take Victorinox over Wenger any day.

Wenger has better scissors and can openers and IMHO their knife blades hold an edge a little longer. However overall quality, fit and finish and strong backsprings go to Victorinox. It's a coin toss really. It's also another excuse to buy more knives. :D

I can only echo what's been said above. The V'nox knives are better made, finished, and last longer. But the Wenger's style scissors are much better. They use the backsprings instead of those flimsy (but inexpensive and easy to replace) springs the V'nox does, plus they're serrated and chew through stuff very nicely.

UnknownVT (our resident SAK expert) did a direct comparison of W vs V flagship models. click.

ahh, the Irish do so hate the Swiss, and about everybody else to boot(and yes Im half Irish so I only hate half of the people I meet thank you).
Vic,hands down!Douglas......................

I have used them both.

I have found that Victorinox have better fit and finish, but Wenger have better designed tools.

A very tricky decision

What matter is that both brands will give you a knife that will serve for a lifetime, you win anyway ;)

Sorry for my english :o

Victorinox has much better watches than Wenger.

As for the knives: they both make high quality knives, but I prefer Victorinox over Wenger.

In my opinion victorinox has always been the winner, unless you go back about 50 years when wenger made a "stouter" knife. The (wenger) blades these days are thin, the handles not as well constructed. The only redeemable quality of the wenger are the scissors (the design).

I have both and use the Vic more and carry it more readily. Not sure why but when they are both lying on the dresser that is the one I grab.
I also find I GIVE victorinox's more as gifts...maybe because usually wegners are only found in bj's and other oddball places.
I always wish there was a mix and match swiss army knife....a build it yourself type that you could put what tools you wanted on there....and not have to suffer with tools you didnt need.

Victorinox. I have owned both.

Vic has better quality and unlike what someone else said, better tools IMHO.

As for the scissors argument... They both do the job. The Vic spring is more likely to break but can be replaced, and the damn Wenger one sticks if its not kept oiled. (Or at least mine did...)

I'm also in the Victorinox camp, but again, they both make excellent products.

Just weighing in on the scissors... I'm not a big fan of the serrated Wenger scissors. Just like on a knife blade, the serrations cut faster, but not as cleanly.

The Wenger SAK's I've owned ain't junk, but I'll choose a Victorinox first any day.
