So, I just gotta vent guys- bear with me!

Sent my Vic onyx Manager in for a scale replacement about 2 months ago and finally got it back today. No big deal, they told me up front it takes a while for turn around. Knife looks great- new tweezers and pen insert. Nice new scales. Nice and clean and oiled...

But good grief, they completely BUTCHERED what little blade this knife has! I always keep my edges it tip-top shape and nice and sharp. In fact, since this knife has such little use, there was virtually zero edge wear. It was sharp as a scaple and had a perfect tip. When I got it back, the blade looks like it has 20 years of use and wear. In fact, I worry about the temper since its been ground down so much!! Further, the damn thing isn't even sharp :thumbdn: Now, I appreciate the effort, really I do... But why fix what ain't broke? I'm sorry I gotta say I would at least note the general condition of an edge before a destroyed it on a grinder, and double so with a tiny little knife like this!

Has anybody has this type of issue with Vic before? Always had a very high opinion of their product, and customer support has been great in the past (as long as you don't mind the hold times), but this is really a game changer for me. Will DEFINATELY think twice before sending anything else in for warranty which I have worked to establish a fine edge on. Sure, its a minor thing, sorta. But it does take time and effort and this knife will NEVER be the same. Even if I get the bevel back nice and clean it will still have all that additional wear for no reason :thumbdn:

Same thing happened to me several years back when I sent in my Classic. It looked like, once they were done affixing the new scales and putting a new spring in the scissors, they handed it off to some good old boy named Vern out back who put it to a pedal-powered coarse grinding wheel. :thumbdn: If I do ever need to send one in for service again, you better believe I'll include a note instructing them to NOT sharpen the blade.

It's not the first time I've heard of that kind of "sharpening" from Vic NA. Do call/mail them and let them know you're not happy, there's no way a knife should come back in poorer condition than it went out in.

That's funny I asked the customer service in Canada to put a new edge on my main blade when I was having my Spartan re-scaled and they sent me back a hand written note "we don't sharpen" maybe that was a good thing.:D

Called in earlier today and complained. The lady on the other end, while nice, seemed thoroughly confused like she had no idea what "blade" or "sharpen" even meant. Further disappointment ensued, though, as she got my email address and promised to send out an email with mailing label to be used to return the knife for a blade replacement. That was about 10am this morning and still waiting on that email.

100% DISsatisfied.

Gotta wonder if maintaining all the service centers in different countries around the world is proving so costly that Vic is simply hiring any schmoe off the street for minimum wage to do the warranty work. This would certainly explain the less-than-stellar service that is being commonly reported. Too bad, great company with a great product.

Happened to me too. I know what you mean about the blade, its like they failed at resharpening my already razor sharp knife

glad they didnt touch my rucksack when I sent it in for pivot issues. I would be happy with the 2 month turn around time though. I hit 3 and a half months before calling them, and was told it was in the mail.
