Victorinox Warranty?

I have a vic classic that is several years old. Recently I dropped it on a concrete floor, and one of the red plastic scales broke off.

Would Victorinox replace this scale, or do I need to buy a new classic? (Not a big loss, I guess...:D)

Thanks,

Frosty

Think you could buy a brand new set of scales.
But it would be much better to have someone in the know who could fit it for you, even though it's a faily simple operation.
BTW, an SAK doesn't really require the scales (but for slipping in tweezers/toothpicks/pens) to function it's slip joint blade tools a 100%.

You can buy a brand new Classic for about 15 bucks.

I think Victorinox offers a lifetime warranty, but of course probably does not include damage caused from dropping the knife, etc.

Thanks, guys...

I sorta figured the warranty wouldn't cover that sort of thing...and your right, it's not a big loss. I can still use the blade/scissors, etc, it's just ugly...

Did the plastic crack or it just popped off? you can put some super glue on the scales and pop it back on if it did not crack.

It cracked...the larger piece came off, but a smaller piece remained. Looking at it now, I think there may have been a crack there before I dropped it, and the impact just popped a piece of it out. :(

Oh well...Not a big deal at all, just a question out of curiosity.

I have sent some in with broken scales, they fixed them at no cost to me. No questions asked.

I once talked to a guy who said he'd sent in the same knife fifteen times for broken scales to get fixed. They did it no questions asked every time. Same for broken blades or tools.

Victorinox will replace the scales for free if you send them the knife. I've sent mine in for the same thing, and turn around time was about 2 weeks. In the meantime, you can get a spare classic at Target for about 8.95, or go to sosak and get a hold of felinevet (Tim) and buy one for just a couple dollars and free shipping. At soask online felinevet has a list of sak's for sale and always really dirt cheap. Both new and lightly used. The money goes to help vet bills for people who can't afford it, so buying something from Tim helps needy cats.

You can also buy scales for the sak, and put them on with Goop, the preffered adhisive among sak fans. Or make your own out of some nice wood, and stick on with Goop. The factory plastic scales just snap on. Over time, the plastic can shrink a little causing the scales to become loose, and come off if dropped. If you buy the eccono scales, they are made out of nylon, and are more durable.

In any case, the Victorinox warentee is iron clad, they will fix any sak, no matter what you did with it, or how old.

Victorinox is awesome.
Besides several plastic-handled Classics, I also own a Classic with Alox scales, which are nearly bomb-proof. Only problem is, they don't hold any tweezers or toothpick. Now, if there were a way to have an Alox model with those little extras, that would take something great up to near-perfect. :)

Yea, I'm 110% sure they will fix it for free. I bought a swiischamp off of ebay and sent it in for refurbishing it had salt water corrosion or something hindering all of the impliments. They sharpened the blades, oiled it up and put new tweezer, toothpick, and ballpoint pen in brand new scales for me absolutely no charge. Knife was brand new when I got it back despite their awful sharpening job that rounded the blades point lol. I'm not complaining though!
