I just picked one up for what I thought was a good price on E-Bay. My intent was to use it for trading material. But...after fondling it and playing with it, really like the locking mech, I'm debating whether to keep it as I don't have/carry one up till now. Any opinions on this particular pocket tool compared to others?

The Swisstool is my favorite multitool, although I also carry my Wave alot because it is lighter and has one hand opening blades. The Swisstool is more of a heavy duty tool with very easy access to all of the tools. Check out Doug Ritter's review: http://equipped.org/devices22.htm

I carry Swisstools in all of my kits. I have found them to be incredibly useful and strong. Some others here have reported problems with the screwdrivers slipping out of screws due to the polished blades but I've never had this problem. I have worked on computers, cars and hiked with them. The blades seem to be of better quality than the Leatherman and the wide prying blade works well on paint cans. The saw and file also work well. The only downside is the weight. Because of that I usually carry a Leatherman Juice or SAK in my pocket during the day. I prefer the plain Swisstool with the plain and serrated blades but the X is also a good choice.

I had a swisstool, before the X. I really liked it very much.
My only 2 gripes were weight, and no scissors. Now with the X, I only have one. I think you should carry it. Since I first started carrying a multi tool, I am sure I can not live without. I use mine constantly. I would definately give up my EDC knife, if I had to only carry one. It is that useful. At least to me.

I have the SwissTool X, Leathermen Supertool, Supertool 200 and Pulse. I prefer the SwissTool X because the tools open independently and the lock is easier to release. I find the "strong crate opener" and chisel especially handy and have used them often. I used a file to square off the screwdrivers so they don't slip anymore. The steel in the screwdrivers seem softer than the steel in the Leathermen screwdrivers. I carry the SwissTool X on the weekends and keep the Supertool at the office and the Supertool 200 in my shooting box.
